How to fix the front license plate
Finally the license plates for my x5 35d arrived in the mail. I cannot figure out how to fix the front plate!! My CA gave me a plastic bracket for it which has a BMW logo on it so I am assuming it belongs to the car but there is no way to attach it to the front bumper unless you are prepared to drill two holes in the bumper. If California law did not require it, I would not bother but unfortunately I must have a front license plate. Any ideas? I should really call the dealer but keep forgetting....

Check with the dealer. There might be a license plate kit for front bumper. E60 has one. Or take a look at other E70 front bumber and you might have an idea. Can you post a picture of a plactic bracket that you have? The bracket should fit without having to drill two holes in the bumper.

You don't have to drill holes if you don't want to.
Check this thread for other multiple options. |
Should have come with your car.
I'm in S.F. too, and am awaiting my plate also. Bracket is there, already installed. Are you missing the bracket or just the screws? Did you check the glove compartment and the rear storage area where the compact spare or third row is? That's often where the screws are kept. |

I think the tie-wrap method is the best way.

Thanks for the replies. There seems to be no E70 specific method to do this. I plan to stop by at the dealer today. Lets see what they have to say.
ABMW, Good to know that yours came installed. You meant the front bracket right? My CA gave me the front bracket at delivery but no screws came with it. I will check to see if the screws are in the trunk or the glove box. Even if I had screws, there is no place on the bumper to screw this thing. Looks like the plate has to be tied to the grill behind the bumper and that's not ideal. |
I bet if you talk nicely to the dealer where you bought it they will put the license plate on for free.

Every car has a hole to out the plate like this. If you don't like this than you can use the velcro tape to stick license plate. There is always a way....check this thread--> Industrial Strength Velcro--Front License Plate - LotusTalk - The Lotus Cars Community
