Left my X5 35d parked for 7-days
 

To keep the discharging battery debate going, I left my 2010 35d parked for 7-days in 35-degree temperature, at night, rising to 50-degrees during the day.

I started it for the first time today. The vehicle was manufactured in December/09.

There was absolutely no hesitation, or issue in it starting. I've since driven it a few miles here and there, started it 3 or 4 times, throughout the day, and all is working like a charm.

I locked the doors, when it was stored, and the vehicle has 3,000 miles on it.

I'm wondering if the vehicles are not being delivered with a full charge from the factory, or if the batteries are being stored too long before being installed, allowing them to discharge. Anything is possible, of course, but that's the update from this 35d owner.

I really wouldn't expect anything else...., it's supposed to start!

Most of my drives are less than 20 minutes. After 2500 miles, I am expecting a battery related disaster any day now. But the old x5 seems to be doing OK so far. Mine is a November 2009 build.

kinda sad situation when owners consider the vehicle starting as a major accomplishment.

but i guess if you look back at the greats from say England as a reference point..................:yikes:

When I was looking for my 2006, I went to a dealer where they had a line-up of about 6 Xs in the lot.

Salesman tried four of them before he could get one to start (this was with a jump pack attached). Wasn't a strong demonstration of the vehicle.

My selling dealer had trickle chargers on every car on the showroom floor. Tell me that didn't look odd...

I keep a battery tender plus on mine every night. I purchased it at amazon.com

I posted the fact that it started, because some X5 owners have been having major issues with their batteries holding a charge unless A) they use a trickle charger each night or B) they drive many miles each day and never let the car sit idle for several days in a row.

I did expect my X5 to start, but I can appreciate the frustration some are having.

Had my X5 not started, I too would have been very upset.

But, so far so good. Again, I think there can be at least 1-dozen reasons people are having issues with their X5 discharging.

But, I wanted to point out that it's not a unanimous, across-the-board, issue. At least, not thus far.

Gotta love that dataset. Wonder if 200 singular posts like this would be enough to draw a statistical- or logical- conclusion....

New 2010 35d parked for 29-days
 

I had about 590 miles on it before leaving for a vacation. After 29-days between 30-50F degree in a garage with door locked, I started it with no problem. A little noisy during first a couple of miles. Now it is about 720 miles, no issue after all.

wasn't taking a shot at you Bro. more the FatherLand. my 4.8 sits outside for two sometimes three days without moving. 2 years now no issues.

but i did have the TCU replaced in August and all the Bugs seem to have moved on. even Elvis hasn't weighed in on my Sat Radio lately.
