It does not look totaled to me but it is hard to tell if there is damage beyond the suspension looking at the pictures.

Doesn't look totalled.
That's nothing compared to this guys: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-sandwich.html I don't think his was categories as totalled either. But that all depends on the insurance adjuster. |
Ouch...hope your wife is okay. I agree, it doesnt look totalled.

To me it looks like the crumple zones in the third picture have sustained damage. If they've collapsed even a small amount, the car will be totaled, as there is no way to repair that type of damage, and the integrity of the frame is destroyed.
Though, that's just what I'm seeing in the photo. If you have a close-up of the damage behind the driver-side fender, it would help determine the issue. At first glance though, that looks like some buckling to me. |
I'm the X5 sandwich guy. I expect to get it back next week. It is at BMW dealer working out a couple of bugs. It's all together and looks brand new again. My shop is fantastic. Tab will be in excess of 20K. Issue with mine is it did not touch the structure or the suspension. It was all of the plastic parts and the aluminum hood ect. Headlight assembly alone was 1100 or 1200 bucks. My insurance company said it usually takes damage of about 80% of value to total.
Good luck. |
Thanks everyone; it ended up being totaled. No crumple zone damage; they said there was just too much damage to the drive line. The wheel took a pretty big hit, it was cracked in 3 places on the inside. Now I have to decide 2010 or 2011.

I'm surprised they totaled it. Glad your wife is ok!!! Here's a picture of my 4.4i X5 I was t-boned by a pickup truck going almost 55mph. The X5 saved my life...that is exactly what the ambulance, police and body shop told me. The insurance tried and wanted to fix it (damage was over $40k). The frame was slightly bent, and I raised hell. They eventually backed down and declared it a total loss. I cannot believe some insurance companies try and fix extensive damage. You will never be able to sell or trade the car in!

Glad you came out of that one too. Our insurance appraiser told up he was going to total it out because he didn't want us having any issues down the road so that worked out for us.
