Aftermarket Exhaust Tips

If you can post a picture of your setup, and what brand\info if you got it!

I recently put the Magnaflow 35168 it looks much better then the stock singles, but I had the same problem everyone else has had. The muffler shop cut the pipes, spot welded, but they still stick out too far.

I am looking for something shorter, a bit wider as these also don't fill the whole space, dual tips, and pref black so they don't need to be painted..anyone with an idea please post as well!

The current specs of the magnaflow are:

Material: 100% Stainless Steel - Mirror Finish
Diameter: 3in.
I.D. Inlet: 2.25in.
Length: 10in.

My X'er is booked for this afternoon to fit the quad exhaust tips. Tips are made by Bosal exhaust and are made of high quaility SS.

Will post some pics by tommorrow.

I did a search on this and saw a lot of post from 07, I was looking to upgrade my 3.0 tips. I saw a set at a local speed shop and when it came time for installation, they couldn't do it bc of the severe bend before the tips. I used thr part numbers from the old 07 posts and they couldn't come up with anything. Anyone else know where to get a descent set of 4.8 tips without too much modification ?

Has anyone tried those ebay tips? They are supposedly bolt on.

BGReddy00 02-02-2010 10:49 PM

I had the dual set put on now, but they stick out too far. I had the muffler shop cut the stock piece off, and spot weld the new tips on..they look okay..but I just want a big bigger to fill the gap as well as black. I could always have them painted worst case scenario..

Its fairly cheap to have a good exhaust shop do these $80-$100 for the whole thing if you supply the tips

Do you have pics?

Im looking todo something like the following (more like the cayenne where its wide and sits inside the bumper):

I see. They do look just a tad too far out. I didn't really notice on Shashankmittal's X. His is similar, maybe a bit better.

How about this one?

I still want to go dual look..the perfect fit really would be the way the cayenne is designed where they sit perfect inside the bumper. I think its going to be hard to find that alone, so Im not concerned with them being black I can just have them painted.

I believe the tips in the picture are the cayenne gts stock tips just painted black..

azwcat 02-03-2010 02:03 AM

It will be impossible to get tips that will make it look like that. The outside tip has to be shorter than the inside tip to follow the contour of the bumper. You might try single wall duals and have them cut to match the lines of the bumper. Not sure how the tips will look after getting cut, but maybe they can smooth it out and refinish it to look good again.

BGReddy00 02-03-2010 02:23 AM

I found these which are basically the same as I have now, but 1.4 inches shorter so they will sit in further:

I haven't been able to find the GTS tips online yet, but Im betting they are a few hundred $'s just because I had a cayenne-s, and everything for porsche is over priced. I do like the dual wall, but I haven't found any that slant down like the oem's.

Do I smell group buy? I'd be interested in changing out my tips.

I have the same Magnaflow tips and I agree, they do stick out a little more than they should. My installer also cut the exhaust pipe and fabricated a new one to weld these tips to the muffler. However, I think I may have an answer to your problem: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-next-mod.html
Check out post #31. providenceleaf found these tips that are dual wall, staggered and short enough for X5! :)

e92law 02-03-2010 04:14 PM

The supersprint tips look great, but I just checked out the pricing and it is insane:

MSRP $1,139.33
Your Price: $843.95

BGReddy00 02-03-2010 11:16 PM

I did see some of those other tips, but from what I've seen on a few other X5's as well as looking at the ones I have now the best fit would be a 3"x3" diameter on the each tip with a total length of 6-8" max. 6" would be flush ideally with the bumper

The magnaflow's are 10" long so theres no way on the ends to cut them down enough also the tips each measure 3" wide x 2.5" tall. Also I think I'm going to search for stainless steel tips what I've read and seen in person its very easy to spray black engine enamel to paint them black. Finally the inlet shouldn't matter as all of these have to be spot weld.

BGReddy00 02-07-2010 05:31 PM

I found these tips on ebay today, but it's so hard to tell the actual length by pictures. These are 3.5 instead of the 3 like magnaflows and are single instead of dual wall I think painted black they could look good? The only concern I have with these is theres little room to cut them down at the spot weld, and they could be too long as the seller states the total length to be 10.25"

I went ahead and measured the magnaflows today..

-The actual dual pipes itself before they are merged together its 5.5"
-The total length from the part where its welded to the existing pipe is 8" this was cut down from 10"

What do those led rods look like in the daytime?

BGReddy00 02-10-2010 07:56 PM

Do you have a side view I'd be interested to see how far they stick out..Also those are the same size as mine I think I need a bigger tip...

I think I finally figured out the best solution today after looking for a few weeks now.

As you will see the Porsche Carrera-S tips are short and wide, so they should work well. I just have to try, and find them at a reasonable price.

Fergcougar 02-28-2010 08:25 PM

yea let me know if you find any for cheap.. I was looking into the same thing but dont feel like forking up 500 big ones
