21x10 all around on E70
 

Hey guys, I am not sure if anyone has done this but here is my question. I have a 2010 X5 4.8I on order with sport utility package to replace my 09 3.0I. I want to put 21' style 239's on, but I do not want the OE runflat in the OE tire sizes.

Will I have any issues if I run all 4 corners on 21x10 (4 front wheels) with 295/35/21 all around instead of 21x10 and 21x11.5 with 285/35 and 325/30? The same non runflast dunlop sportmaxx tires are much cheaper running this setup.

I wouldnt think you'd have any technical issues but I can tell you this. It would look ridiculous. The whole reason I assume you chose a 4.8 with sport package is because you were fond of the aggressive stance of the X and the improved handling the sport package provides. Running a non staggerred setup to save a few dollars will be a detractor to the cars looks and handling. I say dont do it. It's a big error. How much $ will you really save? Theres nothing like the look from behind of the FAT 325 rear on these 21 inch wheels. Why anyone would want to do away with that is beyond me.

I disagree. I run 20x10 all around with 275/45. I did put 20mm spacers on the rear. It looks great. very few people would know or detect that they are not staggered or that they are the same size. Yes a 325 looks nicer. I live in CT and wanted snow/all season tire and ability to rotate. I have way too many wheels and tires in my garage to have summers and winters again. Just such a PIA. I wouldn't change a thing with my setup. Looks great, handles great (in snow and regular street driving)

Valid points. I too have 2 sets of wheels/tires for all my cars and it is a hassle to manage the inventory but I wouldnt have it any other way. Theres something to be said for equipping a car with the best possible equipment for the season. Id rather have dedicated setups for each season than compromise with an all-season all year round. Its just a personal preference. I have no desire to have the ability to rotate tires. I am more performance oriented. I guess there's no right or wrong.

If we were talking about an M3 or 911 or or or then I would agree on two sets. The gains are SO marginal for the 5900 # SAV's that it only comes down to appearance in MHO. Nokian WR G2 tires are amazing all year. They are a winter tire and wear well and perform well in summer and rain. I was of they same mind set as you until recently. 99% of us spend 99% of the time driving our vehicles in a straight line from point a to point b. the marginal gains from the dedicated performance set up are not worth the cost or hassle. I look forward to the day that I no longer have all the wheels I have in my basement. Selling some LS460 19" rims on ebay now and then need to sell the X5 18" rim/tire combination too. And like you said no right or wrong and I will add just our crazy MOD reasons.

So does anyone know if I can put a 21x10 on the rear with no spacer? I am pretty sure the offset of the 20X10 is 38mm and the 21x11.5 is 40mm.


So in theory a 38mm 21x10 should not need a spacer?

you do not need spacers unless you want to fill out the wheel well as I did. Clearance should not be an issue on the inside.
