2010 x5 3.0si engine mods recommendations

Hello everybody,

This is my first post. After having a 335i for 3 years (which came back to the BMWFS), I will be picking up a 2010 x5 3.0 in a week or so. Yes, I should have ordered the diesel one, but it's too late to change the order. So, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend an engine tuning software for the 3.0 model or any other mods that can improve the torque/acceleration. I've done some search here and on the Internet, but so far found nothing. Thanks in advance for your comments/suggestions.

There is nothing available that will have any real impact. There are cosmetic items like cold air intakes, and exhaust systems to change the sound, but you won't get any more measurable power out of it. It is not the same as if it was turbocharged, as then the tuners have something to work with.

I understand. At the same time, Dinan has engine remapping software for the previous generation of X5 3.0, so maybe someone will come up with a similar thing for the E70.

Do keep in mind that you will no longer have a drivetrain warranty (unless Dinan has something).

Maybe put 10k on it first to make sure nobody at the factory messed up....

PS better yet, decline delivery and order the diesel! :)

Those are good points. Thanks. The diesel is out of the question, unfortunately, because (1) I need the car now and can't wait 2 months and (2) I'm not sure that I will be able to get the eco credit if I take delivery after March 1. Plus, I don't want to complicate things for my dealer -- they have been super nice too me and offered me a great deal on the custom-ordered X5 3.0.

funny thing. I just returned my e92 N54 last week and my E70 3.0 is expected to arrive within 2 or so weeks as well. I was told I might not make it in time for the ECO credit since my particular dealership was backed up with orders for a few months. Plus I was able to get the $2500 holiday credit, and I too need a car now and don't want to get a temp commuter. $500 over invoice for me on the price of the ordered car. Post pics when you get yours.. I'll surely do the same..

sorry for the slight thread jack.. just anticipating the arrival of the new toy

Congrats phattbam! It is a funny coincidence. I'm also getting the holiday credit and my deal is $700 over invoice. In all honesty, the 3.0 can be powerful enough, so may be it's not worth messing with the engine. I spend close to an hour behind the wheel of my buddy's 2010 x5 3.0 on a ski trip. It drove great, but I didn't pay too much attention to the acceleration. I'm sure the diesel is more fun though.

I figure with the extra metal on the e70 vs the e92 I had. I'll expect some decrease in acceleration, but also if I travel that fast i would need to stop sooner and shorter so I'd rather not test the abilities of a BIG car/truck. and yeah the diesel is a torque beast. plus gas saver by a margin too.

welcome to the forums by the way..

xplorer,

Rather than ordering a 35d, have you looked into having the dealership locate one so that you can take it now? There might not be a lot of inventory (as I heard the 35d is a HOT seller), but it's worth a shot. I hear ya about not wanting to complicate things for the dealer. But at the same time, do it for yourself. The dealer will still make money from you, so it won't be that bad for them.

I stand by my statement. Nobody has anything that will have any real impact, including Dinan. The Dinan software will raise your rev limiter (I never drove much at redline, myself). They will sell you a replacement paper air filter for the same air box. They will also sell you a less restrictive throttle body. Or, you could push the accelerator down more and accomplish the same thing (unless you are already driving at WOT). I didn't drive my 3.0 wide open much, either.

The Dinan software for the turbocharged models makes sense to me. With a NA engine, you can look at a supercharger kit, but it would be easier just to buy the turbocharged version of the X5 that is coming out in a few months.
