I wasn't on here long...goodbye E70

Hello again to E60...M5 style this time

So I'm trading in my X5 for an M5 on Friday. I liked my X I just didn't love it. This is the second time in my lifetime that I've bought a truck only to trade it in less than a year for a car. I figured it would be a little different this time since I'm 10 years older and married with children. I guess not. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic truck. It just wasn't me. It was fun while it lasted, but I'm moving on to an M5!

So thanks to you all. I got most of my ideas for X mods from everyone here. I have some parts for sale now. Let me know if you are interested.

- Extended Fender Flares $150+ shipping (big box, may cost $50+ to ship)

- Matte Black Grilles $50 plus shipping

- GP Thunder Angel Eye bulbs (2 sets) $30 shipped for both sets

- White Side Reflectors - $15 shipped

- Front and Rear Carbon Fiber Roundels (the rear was custom) $40+ shipping

- BMW WeatherTech Digital Fit Floor Mats (Black) $75+ shipping

- BMW Trunk Liner - $50+ shipping

- H&R Rear 25mm spacers that were never mounted. They are brand new in the box. $100+ shipping ($150+ ship on any website)

- BMW OEM 21" 128 Wheels with Tires. The right front wheel has a very small nick on it. The other three are perfect. I will also throw in a spare front wheel. It has never been mounted. This wheel is almost mint, but it had a paint chip on it so the dealer had to eat it so I got it super discounted. (A new wheel would cost you $750)

The tires still have lots of life left. They were mounted on my car on 7/15/09 and taken off on 11/10/09.(in storage for the winter) I put 5200 miles on the tires so there is almost no wear and I never had a camber issue. The whole set including the spare wheel cost me $5600 new. My price is $3000+ shipping (about $250-$450 to ship depending on where you live)

That's what I have. Shipping may vary depending on where you live. Let me know if you are interested. I can provide pics of the parts in a few days. Here are a few nice pics of my X to say goodbye to...here are some of my M. I wish the pics were as nice as the X ones. They look like they used a camera phone at the dealer

Looks still goes to the X.

But I can definitely believe the M to be more fun. Perhaps someday after my kids and their gear don't need to be hauled around comfortably anymore.

Best of luck.

I'll take the following:

- Extended Fender Flares $150+ shipping (big box, may cost $50+ to ship)

- Matte Black Grilles $50 plus shipping

- GP Thunder Angel Eye bulbs (2 sets) $30 shipped for both sets

- White Side Reflectors - $15 shipped

- BMW Trunk Liner - $50+ shipping

Are you selling the Muffers too?

Thanks

Haha. Mark you're a sicko.

All the best with that new beast

PM sent on wheels!

phattbam 02-09-2010 12:06 PM

missed out on the flares.. :(

x5cro 02-09-2010 12:20 PM

nice X,nice M,but why you didn't wait a couple more months for new M5 model?

Lex2BMW 02-09-2010 12:36 PM

If you don't mind me asking, how upside down were you if any? I am considering the same thing. Brand new 2009 X5 purchased less than 2 months ago for 2010 MDX. Yes if I go through with it there will be a financial impact but IMO worth it cause I am not feeling the X5 the way others seem to be.

C's Bimmer 02-09-2010 12:46 PM

Congrats Mark! Welcome to the family buddy!

Not upside down at all. I wouldn't have done it unless it made financial sense. It depends on what options you have and mileage. I got a great deal on it when I bought it last year. I managed to get $57K for my trade.

I liked my X. I just didn't love it. I'm a car guy and my second vehicle needs to be a truck not the other way around. As far as an MDX over and X. I'm not sure why you would do that. I've driven both and the MDX wasn't close in handling or performance.

I'm not sure what you have for options or engine, but if you are going to take a hit you might want to stay with your X. You'll be taking a loss on your current trade and getting less of car in return. Just an opinion...

Now as for the after market parts...yes I am taking a big loss on those. :(

Lex2BMW 02-09-2010 01:41 PM

Thanks for your reply!

For the past two months I have been in denial over satisfaction with my 2009 X5 3.0i but the truth is the X5 just doesn't give me that uumph I was looking for. The car looks and rides ok and despite what has been reported by others, accelerates okay but the X-factor (no pun intended) just isn't there. I have yet to make the decision to ditch the X but it is tempting.

If the wheels are still available, put me down, love those wheels..

You obviously are not comparing the X5 4.8i to a new 328i. Unfortunately, I've been doing a lot of driving in 328i's and really hated the lack of oomph and handling that it has (and I had a 328i that I really liked for many years before I bought my X5). There is obviously no comparing an X5 to an M5 though... My comments are just the way the 328i drove.

Naz24 02-09-2010 03:10 PM

Congrats on the M5. Now i wonder if you would have done the same thing if u had an X5M or X6M...

This was another guy comparing his 3.0 X5 to an Acura MDX...

I had no complaints about the X, I just didn't love driving it the way I love driving a car. I would never compare and X5 to an M5...that would be like comparing apples to oranges.

If I could have kept the X5 and still bought my M5 I would have for sure.

ard 02-09-2010 03:14 PM

1. Why buy an SUV for driving enjoyment? (I have an M5 and a 996TT for that.)

2. $57k for trade? How much 'trunk money' is BMW paying dealers for each E60M5 these days??? DO NOT think that a dealer pays BMWNA "invoice" for those cars..... the trade in valuation is only half of the deal- without knowing the other half it is meaningless.

Enjoy!

Yes, an X5 and M5 (or M3) is my preferred combination... :)

RTC 02-09-2010 04:40 PM

The X5 M would have been the right car, especially with kids. The M5 is fast but outdated, the new model is just around the corner.

ring007 02-09-2010 05:39 PM

At least $10k in dealer cash on new M5's right now.

Which dealership? I have to check this out!

BCA 02-09-2010 06:31 PM

I did the same thing...traded my X5 after less than a year for an M3. I also really liked the X5 but just didn't love it (nor did I enjoy washing it), yet I still worried that I'd regret selling it. That turned out not to be an issue at all. I LOVE my M3!!

To the OP, good luck with the M5.

Noodle555 02-09-2010 08:23 PM

I can't give up my M3 but wanted the X5. So I just sold my wife's car and bought her the X5. Now I have the best of both worlds.

I think the X5 is fantastic but comparing it with M3s and M5s is apples and oranges. These vehicles are in completely different categories.

providenceleaf 02-09-2010 09:04 PM

That's the way to go.

And I agree...they are completely different animals. I had a 2004 E46 330i and a 2006 E90 330i, then thought I was ready to move to a larger/higher vehicle and bought the X5. I really did like it and thought it was a beautiful vehicle (search for my thread where I posted pics) but I started to get the itch to get back into a car. Then I made the "mistake" of test driving the M3 and I was immediately sold. I plan to be an X5 owner again someday...hopefully it will be my wife's car and I will be driving an M! :D

Naz24 02-09-2010 11:56 PM

Sorry spacers are sold. They wouldn't fit anyway.

Haha I wonder how many people have accidentally test drove an m3 and drove away with a devilish grin and white knuckles. I have intentionally avoided test driving an m until I know I am ready to buy one! I wouldnt be able to walk away, i just know it. Congrats on your m5 hope it suits you well:thumbup:

It was at Irvine BMW. In Dec. with their holiday promotion ($2500) So the total deal was $17,500 off. Interlagos Blue / Silverstone Perforated Leather / Aluminum trim / Fully Loaded / $102,300 sticker price.

Wife walk-in at the WRONG time, I almost pull the trigger...

Noodle555 02-11-2010 01:17 PM

Funny how wives prevent trigger pulling. I was about to buy her a brand new X5 last year and she intervened and prevented trigger pulling

Ended up buying her a used low mileage X5. More money in my pocket :D

The Charleston branch of Hendrick had a M5 Black on tan with a manual for 78K! It has since sold, but what deal for a 100K car!

providenceleaf 02-12-2010 12:06 AM

I have a few things left...

-carbon fiber roundels F/R (the rear one had to be custom made, it cost me $50 to have it made) - both for $35 plus shipping.

-RAD wheel locks. Made specifically for the X5. $35+ shipping

-BMW Weather Tech floor mats F/R. These mats have the BMW logo font on the side instead of the standard red Weather Tech logo. -$60+ shipping

providenceleaf 02-14-2010 09:18 PM

Everything is SOLD! Thanks everyone. I hope you all enjoy your items.

Thanks to everyone who helped out with ideas and advice over the last few months. This will probably be my last post on here unless I venture into an X again.

See ya! ;)
