Interesting.
Question: What causes the cupping? Is it alignment or is it the tire? I had the car aligned at the first annual maintenance time. What is curious is that the two tires on the driver's side are cupped, but the passenger side is not (yet?). Someone told me it was because the tires were not rotated. However, the manual says that BMW does not recommend rotating tires. Any ideas? If I spring for the Michelin's will they cup in 15k? |
in which direction is your usual on / off ramp? there is a condition that resembles cupping when applied to tire wear......... scalloping. generally caused by aggressive counter-steering / corrections in a hard turn such as an on / off ramp. scalloping usually shows on the outside edge of the tire.

I don't think there is a consistent banking on a fast ramp in our drivng patterns. It is the inside of the tires that is cupped, not the outside. I am still puzzled as to why this has happened on one side (and the inside) but not the other (yet). Is it just the lousy Bridegestone tires?
