rear air suspension "malfunction"

I have been having intermittent problem with rear suspension leveler (SLS) malfunction (as indicated by the sign on the center gauge display and also at the bottom of the Idrive display). However everytime I took it to the dealer, I do not have this problem. Eventually I have had enough replication to find out when/how it will trigger this "SLS malfunction".

The "rear suspension leveller malfunction" indicator light will usually shows when the car is occupied by 6 or more persons (3rd row used). In other words, it seems as if it is triggered by load more than 5 persons.

Anybody have this type of problem in their E70 X5 ?, my car is MY 2007

I doubt you're exceeding the GVWR of the vehicle...but it's possible. Are these 6 football players?

Ha . .ha . . not even close . . Average weight of the 5 people is below 130lb while the sixth person (on the 3rd row) is my 42lb daughter

This used to be a big problem with E53's. Is there a different dealer you can take it to?

Actually, now that it is easier to replicate (the problem), I can take it to my regular dealer. Before whenever I take it to the dealer I am by myself so there is no SLS malfunction.

I would be surprised if these faults were NOT stored in memory. Did you specifically ask if any SLS faults in any memory locations?

Not having a current fault is one thing, but I kind of assume the various systems store fault code, frequency and time of last fault...someone with more familiarity with the E70 can comment.

Or did you (foolishly) assume that a BMW dealer would do their job and fully investigate the issue?

I don't envy you having to schedule the 6 friends to go with you ;)

Good luck .

According to the my dealer the car did not show any stored faults. Should I trust them

Did it say "checked for faults running GT1 diagnostics using XYZ, and ABX test protocols"?

Or did it say "C/S SLS failure" and the work order says "No faults found, system operates normally"?

I trust my SA and my tech, but no, not BMW dealers in general...
