Had a flat tire...Just want to share the incident
 

After more than 2 months and 4500 miles on my X5d, I was on my way to a weekend trip to boston, While coming back TPM light came on and when I visually checked the pressure of the left front tire it was pointing to, there was some pressure drop.
I added some air and reset the TPM and drove for around 40 miles with speed of 70 mph, after 40 miles added some more air and drove to the destination without any problem.

This morning, there was again TPM warning with air pressure drop.
I took it to Town Fair Tires, they checked the tire and repaired it ( put a patch internally). Seems that there was a hole, may be a nail hit but was not sure as there was no nail.

Good part was Town Fair Tires charged me on $ 4.25 for changing the valve as other flat repair was free from them. :thumbup:

I spoke to the technician and he told me the tire is as good as the new one and no worries.

Thought of sharing this incident ...Let me know your views.

I have had RFT repairs, it just depends on how low it got, how far you drove on it at that low pressure (both related to potential heat damage to the structure of the tire) and then also where the hole is (not too close to or in the sidewall).

If it was properly repaired with an inside patch, considering the above limitations, then there are no worries with the tire.

When RFTs first came out, there was little real information on repairing them, so dealers used that fear to sell a lot of tire insurance policies, which have a very good profit margin for them. The fear persists.

I also had a puncture but due to a big screw. The tire shop looked at it and advised me to replace it because of the location of the puncture being too close to the sidewall. There is a separate thread on this. Since the tire was OEM Michelin RFT, I believe Michelin will cover part of the cost of the tire. The case is still open. The tire shop went ahead and replaced the tire. They are working directly with Michelin. I haven't paid anything so far. I will report when I know more.

Did you have some kind of road hazard warranty? Otherwise, why would Michelin pay because you ran over a nail?

That's great if they cover it... I've just never heard of such a thing unless you bought a separate warranty...

Nothing other than the warranty on the CD. According to Ard, this was a mistake. They had apparently included an old warranty on the CD. In any case, Michelin did not immediately throw out the case when the tire shop called it in. They were supposed to get an approval code for it. The store manager was out for a few days. I need to call them back to see what happened.
