E70-Replacement battery
My battery will only re-charge to 70%. BMWCanada will not cover under warranty. Has anyone replaced the battery with a non-BMW battery? I believe the BMW battery is made by East Penn and is a DEKA AGM battery. Does anyone know? Anyone buy one in Canada?

One person had their battery replaced under warranty got an Exide battery 90AH BMW P/N 61-21-7-553-954. The replacement explanation was "Replaced as per ISID2 Production Error".
getbmwparts.com lists the cost as list price $299 and their price as $239.20. It also says that it is an AGM battery. They don't say who makes it. AGM is "A newer type of sealed battery uses "Absorbed Glass Mats", or AGM between the plates. This is a very fine fiber Boron-Silicate glass mat. These type of batteries have all the advantages of gelled, but can take much more abuse. We sell the Concorde (and Lifeline, made by Concorde) AGM batteries. These are also called "starved electrolyte", as the mat is about 95% saturated rather than fully soaked. That also means that they will not leak acid even if broken." Chuck |
Denalio,
This guy got one from BatteriesPlus (USA) X5 battery replacement - bimmerfest - BMW Forums I'd say got to Canadian Tire choose an Eliminator with same CCA (or more) and give it a shot. |
No problem with aftermarket. Main thing is to make sure the vent tube is the same. Especially with the aftermarket warranties, save money, ride it hard and then get a new one. Piece of cake.

Just be warned - you will need a trip to the dealer to "code" the car after changing the battery... Otherwise you will get an array of error messages... :(

The battery number on mine is 61-21-7-551-331 which shows as discontinued and replaced with 61-21-7-553-954 as ChuckG said. I wonder if the original battery had issues?

I just had mine replaced under factory warranty about 2 months ago.

The battery in mine is P/N 61216946334 getbmwparts.com says it was replaced by P/N 61217586962 made by Exide. The P/N 61217553954 AGM i think is made by Exide is a better battery.

The Exide Classic 49-60 is basically their best battery and is the one spec'd for around 3/4 of all current BMW's.
