Questions re Nav with 80gb drive....
the nav in the 2011 order guide has an 80gb drive. To get mp3s onto this drive, does the system allow "ripping" cds? does it allow copying mp3s from home made mp3 cds?.
If I get the usb option, does that still allow playing mp3s right off a thumb drive (like I do now on my 07 e70) AND loading them to the internal drive? Whats the chance that you can load movies to the internal drive and watch them on the rear LCD? or that the ipod interface is smart enough to do that? |

a. The 80GB Hard Drive only allocates 12GB to Music, the rest is for Nav Maps, etc.
b. Yes you can "rip" per say CD's and put them on the hard drive, but some do not work due to protection. c. I have never tried importing MP3 CD's but I believe you can. d. From the USB port in the glove box you can import songs and play songs off the flash drive. e. With the iPod USB option you can play songs from your iPod. f. NO you can not play a movie from the iPod USB in the center console. The only way to play a movie is using the dvd player in the back with the rear dvd drive or by having the car in park and playing the dvd on the front screen. |
This is first I hear of the option to play dvds in the front screen...
is this a feature of the new idrive? where is the front dvd drive located? thanks |
As of MY2009 I believe as long as the vehicle is in park you can watch a DVD on the front iDrive screen. I have tested it out and it works, but once the car is out of park you cannot use it due to programing in the software. Also the drive it uses is the one located under A/C controls for CD's, so in actual fact that is DVD drive.

So for 2011 with the new NAV units you will be able to load music into them...nice!

I use the usb stick option exclusively in my e70. Honestly never inserted a cd into the player once in the past 3 years...
now if they actually woke up and realized its 2010. they would let you play itouch videos on the lcd screen... who uses DVD anyhow these days?! |
