Diesel Engine Clatter Part II
I purchase my 35d back in December. Very cold time in frigid Minnesota. The diesel noise didn't bother me at all.
Fast forward to the Spring and the "balmy" 60s here. The clatter seems to be worse now and I'm really surprised how much I hear even when the X5 is warm. I'm trying to figure out if it's the change in the spring diesel formula or if the X5 gets louder as it breaks in. I'm on the fence now with the clatter and the frozen winter urea, actually considering purchasing the new turbo gas model. Any ideas on why the clatter seems worse now? |
How many miles do you now have on your X5d?
The clatter is certainly prominent when pulling away from a stop with the window's down and the radio off but I rarely notice anymore. This is intended to be helpful, but are you sure the temp difference is not a perception thing? I look forward to a magazine comparison between the 2011 X5d v. X5i. Too bad they both won't have the same tranny's. |
I have 6000 miles on it. I'm with you in wondering if it's just me. My wife has mentioned it also, but she hasn't been that excited about the diesel anyway.

I thought mine made less noise with summer diesel fuel VS winter fuel. I sold mine with 6066 miles on it.
