Is the X5 40d coming to the US?
Does anyone know if and when the X5 40d is coming to the US?
|
No.

I expect it will in time...
This is an excerpt from the recent Motor Trend first drive of the 2011. "Then there's the BMW xDrive40d, which the automaker brought along to showcase its updated diesel technology. Though not offered in the U.S. (at least not for 2011), the xDrive40d is powered by a retuned version of the xDrive35d's 3.0-liter twin-turbo I-6 that packs 306 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque and is fitted with the same eight-speed transmission as the gasoline models. With the xDrive35d accounting for one-third of X5 sales, don't be surprised to see the new diesel in America relatively soon." 2011 BMW X5 xDrive35i Specs - Motor Trend I'd be surprised if BMW brought along a 40d for the U.S. launch meeting for U.S. magazines if they weren't seriously considering bringing it to the U.S. at some point in the not distant future, perhaps 2012. But that's just my opinion. |
I agree about the X5 4.0d coming in 2012.
I suspect this is how BMW will wean us from their Eco diesel credit by keeping the new update at a similar price to the 3.0d sans the credit. Also as an upgrade for those 2009's X5d's coming off a 3 year lease? |
From my info 40d will not come to US. BMW is coming with 45d tri-turbo diesel later this year or early next year. 45d may come to US.

Again, my apologies for being pedantic it's just nice to be all singing off the same song sheet. |
The "engine"/model designation nomenclature that BMW is starting to use reminds me of the horsepower wars in the '60s and '70s;
a trio or 4 pack of basic engines that get named a half step above what most of us had come to understand, in terms of displacement, etc. Ah, the marketeers at work.. |

It even confuses the motoring media. Just recently one of the main on-line motoring sites here in Oz described the 2011 X5 as "Bigger engines, more power, less fuel", when in fact all of the 2011 engines are either the same size or smaller than the 2010 models. |
Yep ..hear ya Fraser ... even wheels still mis-quotes the stats on the 35d which is just embarrasing considering its publically available info off the bmw aus website ..I have told them to update ..without response of-course ... now if it was a Ford or Holden I'm sure they'd take the time to fix facts ;)
