Rev surges up briefly few seconds after ignition

I heard this is a sign of some problem relating to the engine.

After ignition and waiting for the temperature to rise a bit, I can see the rev meter surging a few hundred rpm briefly.

What could be wrong?

3.0 gasoline engine.

Where do you "hear" this is a problem 'relating to the engine'?
