There should be via iDrive. There is on our 2010. Read the manual.

Not in a 2008.

Unfortunately, that's correct. I hate the LOUD beeping but I don't want to turn it off as it might save a kid or a pet one day....

Page 83 of the owner's manual for a 2008 X5 describes how to adjust the PDC volume. It is listed as an optional item (*).

Can anyone report having adjusted the volume of the PDC or the Gong, so that it is actually quiet in comparison typical human conversation?

FWIW the E70 X5 manuals I've read, indicate that the iDrive volume adjustment for the PDC and Gong is "in comparison to entertainment sound output". IOW it is NOT an absolute volume adjustment; it is a relative volume adjustment. And in my experience, even after setting it to the lowest volume available and having the "entertainment sound output" SILENT, it is still annoyingly LOUD :(

Very interesting. I've never noticed that screen before on my 2008 X5. It says "On vehicles equipped with a single drive..." I would guess it's not on X5's with DVD changers like mine (but I'm going to have to check).

I wish it had a setting to automatically turn off the PDC immediately after one started driving forward (instead of having to drive 100+ feet for it to turn off)...

I asked about this on this board prior to ordering our X5 last summer. IIRC the reference to "single drive" has to do with NAV. IOW X5s "equipped with a single drive" do NOT have NAV. The lack of reasonable PDC volume adjustment contributed to our not ordering the Tech package, even though we really wanted the rear view camera.

FWIW since our X5 does not have NAV, we can adjust the volume of the seat belt gong. BUT as I reported in my previous post, even at the lowest settings the gong is still annoyingly loud.

I haven't seen that option and not seen any reports that anyone has been able to do it.

jlam86 03-12-2013 10:49 PM

i found a 3series coding site that said they have had success with the following code:

Control unit: PDC for e65, e60, RR1, e70,

LAUTSTAERKE_HINTEN
wert_02 to wert_07

haven't tried it yet though..

rubin 03-15-2013 02:45 PM

possible:
Code:

LAUTSTAERKE_HINTEN          SOUND VOLUME REAR
    wert_02                    value 02
    wert_03                    value 03
    wert_04                    value 04
    wert_05                    value 05
    wert_06                    value 06
    wert_07                    value 07
LAUTSTAERKE_VORN            SOUND VOLUME FRONT
    e38                        e38 (7 series)
    e38/3
    e39                        e39 (5 series)
    e39/2                      e39 (5 series touring)
    e46                        e46 (3 series)

    e53                        e53 (x5)
    r50                        r50 (mini)
    r53                        r53 (mini cooper s)
    r40

EDIT: I had originally checked using NCS Dummy v5.x. I installed v6.0 today.

Those LAUTSTAERKE options, as listed in post above, are there for the E70/E72/E72...

jlam86 03-16-2013 03:25 AM

Of coarse not...

that would be way to simple...

I talked to my service advisor and he said if there is no option in the menu, then you can't adjust it.... basically, deal with it...

my SA had told me many lies - no, no TV option ever in BMW (then i have it installed), no, no BT in your year model, then i have it installed...

my point is - the function still might be there but the name may have changed or abbreviated... i have found a bixenon function in E53 that was spelled BIX instead of normal BIXENON

jlam86 03-16-2013 03:41 AM

I don't doubt it nor do I listen to them most of the time. There has to be a way! it was quieter before.
