Do you think the X5 is totaled?

Left frontal offset impact and on side. Pickup truck hit us. X5 protected wife and I. It did its job. I am not up on vehicle repairs, but wanted opinions on if you think this is a total. Adjuster will look at this during the up coming week. 2500 miles on vehicle.....but, hey....we are breathing, that vehicle is a lifesaver. I posted this earlier in Bimmerfest, but also wanted opinions from here on xoutpost as well.Attachment 42270

First off, glad you and your wife are ok. :)

I'm not an adjuster, but just looking at that unibody damage I'd consider it done.

What was the speed of the impact?
Which airbags deployed?

Both vehicles were probably in the 30 MPH range. I seen him coming and was able to get most of the way off the 2 lane road, but I just could not get away.

No airbags deployed, I am guess due to the area of the impact. Left front, near headlight area, then he delfected and went right down the left side. My drivers side window was totally shattered and gone, and had his headlight casing in my lap. Paramedics gave it to me as a momento of the occasion. Wife commented about our seats, how they seemed to snug up along with the seat belt as impact happen. She said she didn't feel like she was "jostled" at all. Firemen cut me out of my side.....and other than a few stitches, and lots of bruises, I am fine. Passenger compartment seemed to stay strong. I am sure other vehicles would have protected as well....but i am convinced the BMW saved us some severe injury. And a little luck as well.

BMWs actually use seat belt pretensioners, which set off like airbags in case of accidents and pull the seat belt a little more snug against you while catching the seat belt latches. So she was right. :D

Unfortunately you now have first hand experience on why the X5 is one of the safest vehicles out there.

Glad you are your wife are OK. That is much more important than the X5.

Thank you for sharing this. Yes, the car may be totaled, but you & your wife are not. I know you are counting your blessings, twssas.

That will buff right out...

I would think that it will be used for spare parts. Way too much effort to fix that.

Glad you are all ok.
