Bizarre backup camera problem

guys,

I have a bizarre problem on my 2010 X5 35d backup camera.

With my key, the backup camera works perfectly.

With my wife's key, the backup camera will not function, but the top down camera (from the mirrors) will function.

I checked ALL settings in iDrive and I am STUMPED!!

:dunno:

When her key was used last, the "top view" was selected in the idrive to replace the backup camera image.. The key holds the settings for the user it is assigned to. Just use her key again and select the "view backup camera" setting in the idrive and it will work next time.

Thanks for the reply. I tried that. Doesn't work.

With the engine running and transmission placed into reverse, the PDC turns ON in either TOP DOWN view or REAR CAMERA view. One can switch back and fourth by selecting down on the iDrive on the first PDC menu option.

With my key inserted in ignition, engine running and transmission placed into reverse, I can select either view and both cameras function.

With my wife's key inserted in ignition, engine running and transmission placed into reverse, I can select either view but only the side view mirror cameras function. The rearview camera would not turn on although the display is illuminated with NO picture

See images. The first picture shows the top down view with either key in the ignition. The second image is the backup camera not functioning with my wife's key in ignition. The last image is the backup camera functioning with my key in the ignition.

I'm totally amazed how this can be.

ANYBODY? BMW?

That is so weird.. I have not encounter that problem. I have the comfort access and both keys work fine. I am able to use both top view and rear camera.

Have you tried this. Use your wife key and start the engine. Leaving it in the park hit the button to activate the camera (button is located next to hill descent). See if you get the same result. If you do then its probably time for a visit with the dealership.

On the lef side of the screen the second icon down (sunshine) is the brightness icon -- rotate and click on that and set to 50% or above. The third one down (half moon) is the contrast -- click on it and set to 50%. Then adjust the picture quality to your satisfaction. good luck.
