"Adding oil" included in service plan?
 

My X5 told me that I was low on oil and need to add 1 quart. Is this included in the service plan? I.e. - do I simply go to the dealer and ask them for a quart of oil?

Yes..... That's a nothing request. Just be nice when you ask.

Yes, I go to my dealer when my iDrive tells me my oil is low. They top it off for free.

Doesn't the aggravation of dealing with them exceed the value of a gallon of oil now and then??

Yes, if the car says "add a quart" then BMW should cover it. (They do not have to cover oil unless the car presents a message...)

My M5 goes through a quart of $16 BMW oil every 1,000 miles. I stopped asking for the top -off after 3,000 miles (now has 30K) because getting oil was like pulling teeth........and I'm a dentist. Every dealer is different but I've tried 3, and none of them top off but YMMV.

Funny i usually run it by the dealer over the phone and they say bring it in and we will drop a quart or two in. But when the message came up yesterday ( happens around every 10-15k for me) I just bought some mobile synthetic at autozone lol Did not feel like waiting around for the dealer. BMW claims in the manual that they recommend castrol haha But using 1 quart or two of 5w30 to 5w20 is acceptable on occasion haha

No automotive engineer would recommend mixing oils with different chemistries and additive packages, notwithstanding BMWs recommendatins for "top off" oil.

At the VERY LEAST meet the minimal specs in the manual for viscosity and LL certification.

Manual says that its cool. I am certainly no automotive engineer. Are there even any of those at my local bmw dealer? Those were the minimal specs listed in the manual(5w30 to 5w20 synthetic). Who am I kidding fuck if I care the lease ends august 2nd. Any chance it shits out before then, assuming you are an engineer? I am out of my 50k warranty so if takes the piss before august I...you get the idea lol Hoping you will say something along the lines of highly unlikely, but it is not good long term.....:stickpoke

My wife's 07 328i needed a quart of oil to be added, and both dealerships I called here in Bay area told me to just drive it in and the attendant at the service dept will just add the fluids as needed. No paper work, no nothing.

On my way to work, I stopped by the dealer and they did it in less than 5 minutes for me.

Mind you, during my drive to the dealer I got a 'low coolant' message too, and told them about it. They simply added some water from a container to the coolant reservoir, the same water that they added to the windshield washer as well. (I can only hope it was distilled water, but something tells me it was just good old tap water.) They said it has so much coolant in there that adding this little water won't hurt the mixture much. Given our mild weather conditions here, no worries for me (but I am usually very anal about 50/50 and right fluids, etc.)

Goes to show you how much the dealers 'care' when it comes to topping off your car's fluids properly.

Have you tried Park Ave BMW in Paramus? They've never been anything but helpful to me.
