Performance software for V8TT - June release??

I have read some posts on other boards saying performance software similar to the 7RR package for X6 will come out in June for the X5. Also some chatter that Dinan will announce something soon.

I've been wanting to go with a Stage 2 upgrade from Dinan for our 335ic, but it's the wife's car and she doesn't want it. With the new X5 50 as the daily driver, I am ready for some tuning.

So, is a prospective release this month fact or just another rumor? Is BMW doing a better job than Apple to keep a secret?

Also, how much latitude does BMW finance allow for upgrades/mods to a leased car? Is Dinan a no go if BMW offers a competing product?

I haven't heard anything about this release, although being in Canada, I was told by the accessory manager at my dealer that it tends to be available in the US before we get it.
Any word on what power it might offer? I'm hoping for similar gains for the 8TT that they get on the 6TT upgrade (384hp vs 300hp stock, 28% increase, so 400hp stock on the 8TT, add 28% = 512hp!).

Check out the link below for some details on BMW's upgrade announcement for the X6. Would hope a similar offering for the X5 would be in the works. +40hp/+37tq sounds like a minor tweaking given the potential of the 8TT, but its a start. I'm sure a more aggressive tune from Dinan or others would add 50-75hp or more and plenty of torque.

The conventional wisdom for the 6TT engine is that it is underrated at 300hp, so the actual gain may be slightly less than +84hp for Dinan tune. Still a nice step up in performance. I have not seen any specs on a prospective tune from Dinan, though apparently there is an X6 out there that Dinan did some development work on. A web search can take you to a couple of related discussions.

It's already available

Anyone have any success ordering the 40+ hp upgrade? Will this be option code 7RR?

My sales adviser cannot locate any information on this (of course, he was completely unaware that it was available on the X6 since last year).

AtlX 06-04-2010 03:19 PM

Not surprised about your sales adviser...

With the software upgrade being pitched as part of BMW Performance Accessories, perhaps the parts department has more info. Still, if X6 buyers could order it on a new car in 2010, why not put it on the configurator and give enthusiasts the option to donate another $1500 or so to BMW/dealer's bottom line?

JM71 06-04-2010 03:27 PM

Not sure if parts is where to go either. Option 7RR was/is a factory option on the X6. I expect that it is also a factory option on the X5 (and may very well be dealer installable after the fact - TBD).

AtlX 06-04-2010 04:45 PM

If you are ordering new, hope someone can give you a straight answer. Wish I had the option upfront. Would be very disappointed if they did not offer a dealer installed for software!

JM71 06-05-2010 08:30 PM

The X6 performance package was/is a factory only option. Fairly certain its more than just a software upgrade.

Any update on this? Anyone able to order it yet?

You might try shooting an e-mail to BMWNA. They are Very good at answering e-mails and solving problems.

I had a problem with some warranty work and shot them one and they got it taken care of. I didn't like going over the dealer's service manager's head, but he left me no choice but to take matters into my own hands. I got over feeling badly when they did what they were suposed to do in the first place........Not too mention that the service manager is quite a bit nicer to me when I go in there now! It works for me!

Sometimes the best thing is to just go to the source because most of the time, the sales people know less about these vehicles than we do! Sad but true!

Please try this:

 I was thinking the same thing.

I can only speak of my experience with them and it was Very Positive and also they worked Very quickly to get my problem taken care of!

That's my reason for that post. I'm Sorry if yours didn't go as well.

Asking again -- anyone order the performance option yet?

JM71 08-12-2010 10:42 AM

Bump for updates?

Haven't heard anything more from BMW. Did notice that Dinan was looking for development cars, all of which share the 4.4L TT...

I spoke with Alex at Dinan a two weeks ago and he said they had a 750i currently in for dyno tuning. They are expecting to release the software tune in the next 30-60 days. Take that with a grain of salt...

Conservative estimates were 100+ HP for the engine.

Cautiously optimistic....

Nice. Definitely a step up from 7RR. Thanks for the info.

Hey no problem. Anyone want to start speculating on price? I am guessing between $1700-2400...with maybe a discount for early adopters?
