'09 35d Not in My Stable Anymore
BMWNA purchased by '09 last Tuesday at my request. About a 3 month process from when I first submitted claim. The reason for buyback - "Days of Service" meaning days I did not have vehicle.
I must say we are pleased with the way this was handled. We were given a weekly update even if it was to say "nothing this week". Now we have to replace it. Looking at a 2011 X5 35d Sport, Tech, Prem, adaptive drive, 214's or a 35i Sport Activity, tech, adaptive drive. Just can't find units with adaptive drive unless it is the M Sport pkg. Drove a 35i - I like it. The new engine and tranny combo will make it tough to choose over a 35d. Still getting offered the Eco-credit of $4500. And the clatter and grunt is so sweet! They did fix the oil leak. |

But did the info you posted actually fix the oil leak you had, or were there other efforts and parts? GL A |
Ard,
No more oil leaks since the fix. |

Thanks. I can envision a post in 3 months: "Hi, I just picked up a CPOd 2009 X5d and it has this oil leak..." :dunno: Good luck with the new one- A |
Thanks for the f/u. I am bringing mine in tomorrow to be checked.....

OK. Just picked mine up and they replaced the same parts as dmfelger and speciald14 (charge air hose/seals). Per Ard's comments on the fact that oil should not be in the charge air hose to begin with, I grilled the SA as to why oil was there in the first place.....The SA speculates that this seal was most likely defective or improperly placed, and was causing oil to leak into the charge air hose. He assures me () that the leaked oil will not affect the turbo spools or the exhaust system since it is all "burned off".....We'll see. I also asked him if the seal will start leaking again after another 17k miles, and he said that he believes that it shouldn't since it is now "properly in place"..... Still have 2.5yrs on warranty, so I figure if there will be a problem, it should declare itself before then.....Will probably get extended warranty as well since I plan to keep the d for a loooong time.....
They also reprogrammed the computer system (erased all my presets too), changed the dreaded charge air temp sensor, flushed the brake fluid, and changed the cabin air filter. |

May I harp on something? The seals they replaced seal AIR. They do not seal oil. If the seal is bad, air leaks. Oil CANNOT leak due to THESE seals being bad. If the turbos (which are oil lubricated) are leaking, they WILL leak into the air stream and eventually the leak can come around the air seals. Now if they crank these down tight enough, maybe you'll never see any more oil.... Keep an eye on it. Personally I'd pop it off and have a looksee in a few k miles just to check...but you know ard... Just as a follow up...no issues since it went in last on 7/22/10 |
Yesterday morning I got CEL come on (all of the sudden on my way to work)... Drove straight to my BMW service department. Today got a call - turbo-intercooler hose leaking, they ordered part and should get it installed tomorrow.
No other symptoms - no oil leaks, no changes in engine's behavior (power, torque, etc were normal). Funny that the 1st loander (a 535i) died on me too (low coolant, engine went into limp mode - did not allow to spin off above 2K rpm)... Now I know what the "limp" mode feels like (it is when honda civic with 4 passengers passes you on the highway entrance ramp and you can't do a thing about it :)) |

1. "All of a sudden"? What, do they sometimes come on slowly, maybe fade in like a slow dimmer? 2. "On the way to work".... So going home, or to lunch, or just driving around aimlessly, are entirely different CEL situations? :D Hope it resolves A |
