Rear Mounted Bicycle Rack

Just an FYI...

Just got the rear mounted bike rack (the one for X5's w/o the hitch)... for my mountain bikes.

Some comments
- I previously had the Thule T2 which I liked a lot... so I will use it as comparison

- This rack is much much lighter which I like better because I don't like to keep the rack on the car

- This rack has a locking mechanisms for both to the car and to the bike. Though the lock to the bike is probably to prevent a casual theft

- The build quality and design is excellent.. probably a few more second to secure a bike than the Thule rack.

- I have not attached it to the X5 yet but it looks straight forward but more complicated than a hitch rack

- It does not extend out as far as the Thule rack which I also like better however it does not tilt up.

- I'll post some more once I start using it.

- Finally, the price is a bit outrageous. I asked the local dealer to match this price of $399 (Parts.com) he did. made it more palatable.

Thanks for the write up I'm also considering ordering the rack. BTW what kind of bike will you be mounting, I have 05 Spec StumpJumper which has an irregular frame and I"m trying to figure out if the locking mechanism will keep the bike in place.

Does it come with a s/w upgrade that allows you to disable the rear PDC sensor?

I have a trek fuel, standard triangle frame. But you'd have no problem with the stumpjumper because the bracing arms can be adjusted to fit any bike (they move across and down the vertical framing). It could grab the seat post at worst, and the strap is fairly big so I think it could even grab the frame with out any difficulty.

I don't have PDC so I did not ask but nothing was mentioned about the software upgrade when I purchased it.

10 Attachment(s)
Pics.... Installed on the car less than 10 mins. Racking the bike 1-2 minutes.

So it installs in the tow hook holes, that's actually pretty cool.

x5mb35d - nice rack. You had mentioned you do not have PDC-parking sensors

Does anybody know if there is an sw to prevent the rear sensors from constantly beeping when the rack is installed?

Hi, I'm really interested in the rack. Could you let us know the exact brand/model? The link to Parts.com you gave doesn't work. Can anybody guess if this would work with 2011 model?
