I'm ready to trade in my 2007 X5 w/ 46,000 miles and im ready for something new.
M3, 535i or X6? |
Hold your horses and wait for the M5
|
X6 50i or X6 M

+1. The M5 never disappoints. If you don't want to wait, I would say the X6 if you need something practical and the M3 if you don't. |
It all depends on how you want to drive.
I vote for X6. Love the higher sitting position. The M3 the most agile. 535i is a good inbetween. Probably the most comfortable to drive in. |
M3.
|
If you live in NO then get the m3. No snow down there lol
|
You know we're all going to have different opinions.....
I LOVE my X6 50i. It truly amazes me. It's a sports car that you don't have to get down into. My plan was to get the new 6 after this lease is up. I changed my mind and will step up to the ///M X6 next time around. I can't believe how agile it is. Good luck with whatever you chose. |
I would recommend the M3, I'm not a believer of new turbo ///M generation.
|
X6M
Cheers, |
X6 5.0 only because the sound is fantastic.

If you need the utility, X5M...if not, M3.

Is there a diesel X6 in the US?

X5FX - I suggest you try and do an extended test drive. Trust me. I'm obviously biased. I don't know what your needs and wants are but do not assume it's the same as the X5. |

the X6 is a beast, especially the ///M version. The handling is absolutely ridiculous. I think the best color for it is white (sorry cmyx6go--black is second) |

I think the 3 series is too small. The dealer didnt have a single 5 series...so I couldnt even look at a sedan. He said they are selling off the lot as soon as they arrive. |
If your looking for something "new," my choice would be the M3 (maybe the Frozen Graay 1 of 30 for the USA...) compared to the X5. If your looking for something "more," my choice would be the X6 (specifically the X6 5.0i 7RR package....)
As for the budget minded...X6 35i with the same performance package.... 5's...everyone's got'em...except for GT's or M5's 3's...everyone's got'em...except for M3's X5's..people have them...X6's are more rare My $.02. Good luck in your choice... Ultimately...this is one of those choices where you really can't go wrong....your still WERKING it.... |

As for going from an X5 to a 3-series, even if it's an M3. I'm not all about get-up-and-go so I'd feel it's a bit of a letdown to go to a 3 unless it's just a weekend fun car. If it were me looking for something new, I'd do a 5.0 X5/X6 or leave it alone. |

Yes, I do feel a difference in the 3.5 over my 3.0...but is isnt significant. The one thing I did notice though is that the sport mode in X6 is far smoother than my X5. In the X5, I only us it as needed and immediatly switch back. On the X6 it wasnt as harsh and could be left in Sport for an extended time. I agree with you on M3, and have eliminated it as an option. I do think I can enjoy the 535 though, so will give it a try next. I dont care if its common, its about what I enjoy driving more than having something unique. What about the diesel X5's...how do they compare with the X5 5.0? |
If money is not a factor, I would definately have both M3 and X6 in my gargage. If I have to choose one, the winner is always the X6. I love the unique design of the X6 and definately going with the X6 over the M3 with no hesitations. Both are great cars and you cannot go wrong with either one.
Good luck on your decision process and share with us when you bring home the next ultimate machine toy :p:. |

I think you are comparing apples to oranges on this one. The ///M3 is not even close to the X6 segment. I thing the only thing they share in common is the name plate. I had to make a similar decision. For me it's a nobrainer....the X6 ///M is hella nice, but I don't have a need for all the room. That was about 90% of my decision to sell my 4.6is and get the 650i. After owning 2 E53's reality kicked in. Now faced with my lease ending soon, I really wanted to jump on a X6 ///M. But after careful consideration and knowing that I jump out of my X because I didn't need the room, my decision was made. ///M3 coming soon. So I guess I say all of this to say.....you have to consider your needs before you make this purchase.....Phil

X6 at least has a usable back seat. Score one for the X6 being the "utilitarian" one. I wonder if it will be facelifted for '12 to match all the other cars with the new taillights, etc.

+1 If you haven't owned an M3 before, but love BMW's, it's time to own one. Great handling and you will never forget the sound/feel approaching redline. If space for hauling kids, etc. is an issue, the X6 50i will be a big step up in performance from your current ride. Agree with others comments about the 535i. You can tune the performance up a notch, but the M3/X6 will still be much more satisfying. Good luck! |
I love the X5, I looked at the X6 when I was getting mine but I just didn't get the concept (sorry folks who drive the X6). If I am looking for utility I want real utility and X5 itself is kind borderline on that, X6 has really no utility factor. It seats 4 and has as much space as a 5series wagon. Like the X6 looks though.
I would love to get the M3 convertible, but haven't hit the jackpot just yet. When I do, that will be the rocket to get. I had the e36 328is earlier, and it's just amazing how that thing drove. IMHO the 3 series have the perfect proportions for the Ultimate Driving Machine. I drove the new 5, it is a great ride, but it is ultimately a Luxo Cruiser. Quite heavy and "No One" should order it without the sports package (drove the 535i without Sports Pkg and 550i with the Sports Pkg., wow, what a difference in handling). Good luck making the "tough" decision ;) |
Your choices are apples, oranges and pears. Go drive them and see which one you feel. No amount of "get this or get that" is going to give you what you're looking for :dunno:

On a side note: Drove the new 5 series at a BMW Ultimate drive event (both the 535 and 550). Although they are both great cars (wouldn't mind having either of them), when I got back into my X5 the first thing that immediately jumped out was "comfort". The X5 is really more comfortable (with the higher vantage point and larger cabin space). But the 5 is more sporty of a drive. |
Get an M5!! I would say that though even though its 3 years old, I love it to bits, I had a 2009 m3 convert just to sell on last month, was very nice to drive but the m5 felt quicker and nicer to drive, the m3 convert is more flashy which I'm not really into, absolutly love the the car, just don't like everyone staring all the time but I think that probably goes with any convertible, the m3 coupe probably wouldn't get no where near as much looks, the m5 is quite a subtle monster which is what I love about it even with the 21inch hartge rims, it still looks subtle, some people don't even realise its an M5!
I just love cars that blend in but a real monsters, also like the audi RS4, dare I mention an audi on here! Only you can decide what car you get next! No one else! Good luck anyway! |

Yeah their all lovely, but people will only really stare at an x5 only if they are car enthusiasts, where as if you was to drive past a load of people especaiily ladies for example in a bmw convertible they will be looking for sure and staring whether they are enthusiasts or not, most people wouldn't take a second look at you in a M5, again unless they are in car enthusiasts,
I agree all the cars that we are talking about are lovely! |
