How to add more Hp to a 4.8i?

I would like to add at least 40 more hp if its some how possible and torque. Any ideas how? safe way :D

JCL 06-24-2010 02:09 AM

Forced induction, likely a supercharger, from one of the tuners. G Power claim +95 hp on that engine with their stage 1 kit, and go up from there. No comment on how safe it is, you'd have to ask someone who owns one.

I am thinking of buying the Supercharger System SK I, I sent them an email about the product. Does anybody know how I can get the price for that? it doesnt show in their website.

Look at this web site. It's $22K for that supercharger....

JCL 06-24-2010 01:18 PM

More power, reliability, low cost. Pick any two.

blackbumer 06-24-2010 01:40 PM

$22k ??? wow I thought it would be around 3-4k

Yes, I thought you might be (unpleasantly) surprised... I had the info handy because I'd previously tried to find any options for a hp and/or torque increase for the 4.8i.

blackbumer 06-24-2010 08:56 PM

Well, I guess I will have to take 4-5 months of work to save some cash lol.

Noodle555 06-25-2010 05:06 PM

Take the $22k + current X5 and make it into the X5M

blackbumer 06-26-2010 02:50 PM

Thank you noodle, I was thinking the same thing.

Bora20 06-26-2010 03:03 PM

Trade it for a 2011 X5 5.0?

I don't think that will be possible. I have been looking to get out of my 2008 4.8 and into a new 35d.

22K will barely get me into a less equipped 35d. Moving into a X5M would definitely cost more.

Dang car depreication. LOL

E53is 06-26-2010 07:34 PM

Dinan? i know a full job is far to much but maybe they have a few smaller parts to add 40 hp , their stage3 kit for my e53 was close to 25k. ( retarded )

4-5 months to save $22k? Are they hiring where you work? :D

In my opinion, that's an OBSCENE amount for a measly 95 hp!

What do these tuners use to tune these systems?

DONONE69 06-27-2010 04:08 AM

Go on to "vortechs" website and see if they do a supercharger for yours! There ones are no where near 22000! For e53's there not anyway!

DONONE69 06-27-2010 04:13 AM

Your better off going to get your m5 back! Ha

I had a Vortech on my C5 and they can make some SERIOUS power as long as the person installing it knows how to tune!

I know Vette Guys (with LS1/LS6 STOCK block, non forged motors ) that have put down 700 to the wheels! :yikes:

This was done using meth injection and a SPOT ON tune! I have no idea as to what these motors are capable of because I've never seen one really pushed (too costly and lack of affordable aftermarket parts).

I'd be curious to see how things worked out if you put a Vortech V3 S-trim on or a Paxton Novi 1500/2000 on.

Please keep us posted! :beerchug:

Interesting sidebar conversations, but neither Dinan or Vortech do anything for the E70. Go back and read posts #2 & #4. There is an option out there, and now you can see why it is a ridiculous price.

DONONE69 06-28-2010 11:55 AM

Yup, I had a vortech on my golf vr6 years ago, it was very reliable and the power was unbelievable for what car it was!

For that price, that's not an option for me! Heck, that's what also makes the X5M/X6M look like a good deal. When you take into account that a loaded X5 4.8i will cost you $75k, for $20k more you can get something with a bunch more power AND a warranty, that's a Great deal!

I'd do that before spending $22k on a blower that only makes 95 bhp (that's not even to the wheels, which to me is Weak). I figured it this way, with the blower, it comes out to $231.57 dollars per hp ($22k/95, not such a Great deal), but with the X5/6M, it comes out to $162.16 per hp WITH a warranty ($90k/555. This taking into account you bought a slightly used X5/6M in the $90k range which can be found). Just my .02 and you get what you pay for! :D

DONONE69 06-29-2010 01:13 PM

yeah that price is madness and never worth it

JCL 06-29-2010 01:40 PM

I am not suggesting in any way that $22k is worth it. I think that it is ridiculous, as I said in my post. But I also think that carrying on suggesting Dinan and Vortech alternatives when in fact they don't make anything for the OP's 4.8 is distracting and a waste.

DONONE69 06-29-2010 01:52 PM

Ok, No one is carrying on suggesting it, i think I mentioned vortech once to the OP and suggested that he see if they done a supercharger for his X5, then me and freddy spoke to eachother about our previous cars with these superchargers.....end of!
