Oct 2010 Changes
Edit: Changes delayed till October for X5 and X6
http://www.xoutpost.com/attachments/...er-changes.pdf And somebody repeated a rumor that LED Corona rings would come in September, could they be part of these changes? I don't see them listed. It sounds like this update includes the new iPod Out feature for IOS4 phones, which is pretty cool. |

I was going off this thread which appeared to have updated info:

Wow. No mention of the recently announced "iPod out" support in ios4. LAME. BMW makes a big thing about announcing it for 2011 a couple of weeks ago, but no mention here.

Nooooo. That's still referring to the old style interface. Sure album art is displayed but its just pulling that from the song meta data. Not using the new ipod out functionality. What they are describing here is already available in Europe on the 3er coupe and 7.
|
I want those f ing headlights...:banghead: This makes no sense whatsoever

Sure. For mp3s when meta data support v2 was introduced it allowed album art for the track to be embedded directly in the file. You can use any id3v2 tag editor with mp3s to do that or simply use iTunes. Embedding album art in the mp3 is no different in principal from adding information about song name, album, artist, etc
Not sure about windows media. Got a feelin' that behaves differently. |

September changes

Dup:
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...0-changes.html But do you have any info on the LED headlights coming to this round of changes, like you thought they might a month ago? |
Is the iPod update the famed "iPod Out" functionality or just the ability to see album art? There seems to be some confusion around this - I'm certainly confused
|
So even though I purchased a 2011, they will add new functionality to the 2011 after I bought it. Geez, thanks BMW.

What's the latest rumor on the next-gen of the X5? I had heard something about MY 2013, but wouldn't that make for an awfully short LCI run? Seems like MY 2014, with an introduction in 2013 would make the most sense... I'm assuming there's nothing definite, just rumors at this point. |

I have an 2011 X5 M Sport Package on order and the BMW System accepted the vehicle order for an August Build WITH the "5DK" Side-View Camera option.

I just delayed my order for a September build.
|
I'm going ahead with my build (over the next few days). My personal reasoning is below (your mileage will vary). Just want to make other folks not waiting feel a little better. :)
- Apple or Blackberry features don't interest me at all as I'm a dedicated Android guy. Some people don't do the smart phone thing at all (lucky folks). - Side view cameras are cool but I wouldn't have many opportunities to use it beyond showing off. PDC, rear camera and top view on the other hand are VERY useful. - No interest in Bluetooth music - now have a $100 USB disk with WMA Lossless encoding of my whole CD collection (finally finished re-ripping!). Only thing that might be nice would be playing recently downloaded podcasts from the phone but I'll use the USB cable for that if I go that way. - Bluetooth call history/top - this is actually a very nice feature that will benefit everyone with a recent Bluetooth phone. But not something I'm willing to wait for. Interestingly my top calls in the car (usually family/friends) are different than my top calls on the phone (often work related) so having them different may even be useful for me. To those building Sep or later - is it confirmed that the rebate on diesels will extend through Sep/Oct and beyond? Just want to make sure there are no surprises for anyone. What terminology should we use for the pre-Sep and post-Sep cars - 2011 v1 and 2011 v2? It's great to see such rapid change in innovation from a car company - competition is good and BMW is winning. What I think we'd all really like to see is more software updates over time (over the air like with a phone) for the non-critical features like nav and entertainment. I've decided to lease by the way - August 2010 + 3 years = 3rd generation X5 with likely way more improvements in the diesel than any other US engine. Keep my options open. |
Any word on the 7RR Performance option that boosts horsepower?

Any word on the LED halos? Are they the same as the ones in new 7's and 5s?

Picture is from the new 2011 X5 brochure that has a bit more info on the updated tech features.
Brochure makes no mention of LED Coronas, so I assume it's a safe bet they're not coming in Sept. |
Wonder how much of this will make it to US cars?
Also, wonder if I can get my 2010 X5's reflashed to enable any of this that does make it to US cars. |
Quote:
None of it is available for retrofit to vehicles produced prior, since it is enabled by hardware advances, according to the announcement posted above. |
On page 9 of the 2011 X5 brochure (available for download on bmwusa.com), it shows a closeup picture of the new headlight assembly with the following caption, "...while centrally positioned foglights and Xenon Adaptive Headlights with new LED Daytime Running Lights further distinguish the vehicle's distinctive front section..." I did not see any disclaimers.
Do you suppose they are referring to the new corona rings? The brochure also mentions the updated software changes, Mobile Office, bluetooth, etc. There may still be hope for the new lights on Sept builds... ;) |
I have to be honest, I am pretty mad that I have not even taken delivery of my X6 yet and there are already updates. I completely understand that automotive technology is always changing, but the 2011's just came out! And not even some of the new features are available via a software update?!?

Anybody have a contact at BMW that can find out for sure? |

But remember BMWNA also had in their NA lit that trip planning through connected drive was available. Have you tried to us it in the US? It doesn't work here. I a somewhat related note; I noticed yesterday that BMW assist has released a update to Google maps available through the BMW search option. I noticed it when I tried to use BMW search to find the adress and number for a business but BMW search could no longer find anything on Google maps. I'm sure it will get sorted Nd "fixed" in the next couple of days if it hasn't been already. |
To get the new features and capabilities as outlined in the Product Planning & Strategy Bulletin September Production Changes
dated July 9, 2010 on X5's ordered with a September build (or later) it doesn't appear that you can order these options anymore: BMW Assist with Extended Bluetooth (639) iPod/USB Adapter (6FL) The dealer ordering system does not list them as options to select on new vehicle orders with a September build allocation. Has all this been automatically included in the "Technology Package" or is the "Smart phone option" (or both) ? |
There are reports over at Bimmerfest that these changes won't hit the X5 until October 10, build week 40 (due to a phased rollout).
Anybody have confirmation one way or the other? |
I had delayed my build until September from July for these features. However my dealer called me Monday and advised that BMW has delayed until after October 1st. I decided not to delay delivery mt order any further. I will now take delivery in September.
|
Just confirmed with my salesman, that the changes for the X5 and X6 will not be available until "October production" so most likely the Oct 10th date we are hearing. So he delayed my production order and now I will get delivery in late October - early November.
|
My sales guy confirmed and I delayed my build till oct from september

Bill Jacobs and I am not sure how i got the date. Am pretty good friends with my SA and I have purchased more than one car from my sales guy. I wrote a 2k check at purchase because of the 80k price. I figured if I get any deposit back then I will just add to the down payment

BMW Model Year 2011 Fall Update
* 08.09.2010 * Press Release Woodcliff Lake, N.J., September 8, 2010... For most BMW models, the 2011 model year began in spring 2010. Below, we outline each of the 2011 models including the changes that will take place from September production. ***snip**** 2011 BMW X5 SAV® For 2011, the BMW X5 models are enhanced with new powertrains and updated design. Innovative new design elements and powertrains are the result of over 4,000 new parts created by BMW designers and engineers for the 2011 BMW X5. Two of the X5’s powertrains are all-new for 2011, creating the new X5 xDrive50i ($59,275) and X5 xDrive35i ($46,675), in addition to the familiar BMW Advanced Diesel X5 xDrive35d ($52,175). All models receive a design update that enhances the brilliant focus and aesthetic appearance of the X5 brand. The gasoline models receive BMW’s new 8-speed automatic transmission for better acceleration and fuel efficiency. The X5 xDrive50i features BMW’s 4.4-liter “reverse flow” V-8 engine with 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque, coupled to the new 8-speed automatic transmission. The X5 xDrive35i features BMW’s newest inline-6 engine (see Page 1), with 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft, also coupled to the 8-speed automatic. These two models are capable of 0-60mph acceleration in 5.3 seconds and 6.4 seconds, respectively, while achieving EPA highway fuel efficiency ratings of 20 and 23 miles per gallon, respectively. The updated body design of the 2011 BMW X5 is characterized by well-balanced proportions that accentuate the vehicle’s powerful presence and agility. A long wheelbase, short front and rear body overhangs, and large light-alloy wheels provide a visual balance between the front and rear of the vehicle. Square-shaped, carefully flared wheel arches hint at the X5’s all-wheel drive traction and other-roads capability. The body lines sweep upwards from the front and rear wheels, communicating BMW’s near-perfect 50-50 front-rear weight distribution which is so essential to the X5’s legendary driving dynamics. The sides of the X5 are elegantly stretched though the strong horizontal lines of each side. The surface of the hood flows seamlessly into the waistline, while the prominent, gently inclined contour line at the door handle level extends from the front wheel arches to the rear of the vehicle. These character lines symbolize power, stability, and presence. With its distinctively contoured hood, large BMW kidney grille and dual round headlights, the new BMW X5 boasts an expressive front end that symbolizes power and presence. The newest interpretation of the X5’s look is led by the redesign of the front fascia and position of the standard fog lamps. Due to an increase in the number of elements painted body color, the front end gives the impression of being lower. At the same time, the increased size of both the central and outer air intakes hint at the boosted engine output. The black trim at the bottom edge of the body is now considerably narrower. A matte-finished silver protection plate extends across the entire width of the central air intake, emphasizing the muscular features of the SAV, and accentuates the new X5’s character. An M Sport Package is now available on most X5 models, with sporty components perfectly matched to each vehicle. Last year showcased the introduction of the BMW Advanced Diesel-powered X5 xDrive35d. It features a 3.0-liter sequential twin-turbo inline-6 diesel engine with 265 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque. The X5 xDrive 35d offers class-leading performance and fuel efficiency: 0 – 60 mph in 6.9 seconds and an equally impressive 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway EPA rating. ****snip*** |
^ I'm not finding any difference that will "take place from Sept production"...?
|
I am not sure what the post LemansX5 post was about. I know we were talking about the new ipod integration with the idrive which was originally slated for Setember production but was delayed until week 40 which is october.
|
Just a official release by BMW listing all the models....I just posted X5 part. I think its just a recap by BMW. I don't see anything newer than already posted in this thread.
|
Still no news on the LED coronas, eh?
|
And still no news on the performance option?
|
People on bimmerfest are reporting that new builds have 2 new options - the iPod updates, and Daylight Running lights. Looks likely they're switching to LED coronas.

Has it ever happened that a new feature would just show up without being mentioned in the model year bulletin or any bulletin? |
I can't get any answers out of BMW GB about the two options 8TL and 8TN, but they and option 6VC were apparently fitted to my new E71 XDrive40D built last week (Week 40) and now awaiting transport to the UK if that helps anyone. My dealer checked the build data and all three are fitted.
|
I am picking my car up on Wednesday. It was built the first week in October(Oct 4 start date). I will tell you what my x5 has installed. My sheet has 6VC and 8TL
|
Any updates? I'm just waiting for someone to confirm the iOS4 support as well as the LED rings....My sales rep calls once a week, she doesn't seem to know much....
|
I took delivery of 1st week Oct build. Combo box and verified album cover, audio over bluetooth and I DO NOT need a Y cable for my iPhone 4 and IPhone 3GS to work as they did when I used a Y cable on my 2007. NO LED angel eyes, halos, coronas, or any other name they are called by
|
Anybody seeing the 8TL option on newly placed orders?
