IT IS HERE !!! 2011 X5 35d (WITH PICS!)

5 Attachment(s)
Got a call from my CA that the car has arrived :yikes::yikes::yikes:

Timelines:

Order Placed June 2nd
Production started July 2nd
Production completed July 16th (took long because of the plant shutdown for five days)
Release to carrier July 18th
At the dealer in NJ July 21st (that is only 3 days en route, including Sunday)

Picked up, everything was fast and no surprises... And guess what - the cargo cover was included, as promised!

Here are some Droid pictures, one of them with old and new side by side!

newmanium 07-21-2010 12:55 PM

Let us know if the cargo carrier cover is included - somebody over at bimmerfest supposedly called BMWNA recently, and was told that it isn't included with ANY X5's anymore, so will be interesting to see what you got.

alexmish 07-21-2010 02:05 PM

Just got an email from CA confirming the cover is there!!! Obviously, I want to see it before I believe it, but I never caught him lying or giving me incorrect information before... That is why this is 5th BMW my family purchased from him!

Naz24 07-21-2010 02:06 PM

wow you got that quicker than i will be getting my iPhone 4!

Yeap, and I already got all accessories in my garage waiting to be installed... While you will still need to wait for the iPhone 4 "free" cover ;)

bimmer_buachaill 07-21-2010 02:22 PM

It's only the 35i that has the cargo cover issues in lower trims. 35d and 50i always have it.

Whoever called BMWNA was told that the cargo cover is not included in ALL trims now (35d and 50i), that's why I was asking.

I'm hoping their rep just had incorrect info, which is what it sounds like.

Congrats on the purchase!

Congrats on the purchase!

When I called BMWNA 3-4 weeks ago with the same query, they had no clue, and I were told that this information is typically goes first to the dealers, and not always to them... But then BMWNA call operators are just script readers...

Thesmaz 07-21-2010 03:35 PM

i talked with my dealer about this and he contacted his home office who in turn have contacted BMW NA and BMW Munich so I hope to have the real answer soon. Of course I'll find out if my 35d has the cover tomorrow, supposed to arrive!

bigx5er 07-21-2010 06:21 PM

My 35i 2011 premium did not include the cargo cover.

iamcdn 07-21-2010 06:35 PM

I picked up my 35d on July 9th and it came with a cargo cover. I'm in Canada

Franklin Joseph 07-21-2010 07:21 PM

what's this cargo cover?

CARGO COVER WAS INCLUDED! BUILD DATES July 2nd - July 16th.

vtmikev 07-21-2010 10:14 PM

Wow from JMK!!! They are out selling there pipe line. I was dealing with ART and he told me they had a 3 month wait!

vtmikev 07-21-2010 10:19 PM

what acccessories you putting on?

alexmish 07-21-2010 10:23 PM

I've ordered 7 weeks ago with original build date for around mid August, but then someone backed out I guess and my prod date got moved up.

I am planning to install mud flaps (not sure yet), roof deflector and hood deflector... Probably this weekend if it is not too hot.

Jime60 07-21-2010 11:38 PM

What about oval exhaust tips like on the 5.0. Is that an option or can you even get them as a dealer add-on?

It would require, I guess, bumper retrofit. Unlikel 2007-2010 models, where it was the same bumper from which you could cut out large hole, the 2011+ bumpers dont have extra cutouts.

alexmish 07-22-2010 06:31 AM

First impressions after 55 miles... :)

20s - ride is about same quality as 19s, let's see how it will hold as tire wears down

Mpg - 25.1 avg my commute to work, which is 80% hwy over slight up-and-down hills. Ocassionally over 30mpg on highway. Cruise control set to 77mph. Again, the engine only has ~2 hours on it, I'd imagine it will get even better. For comparison, I was getting 16.5mpg on my 2008 4.8 on the exact same trip, and I had to feather the throttle.

Range - currently showing 450, 55 on odometer (total 505 total), and I've idling yesterday for at least 1 hour if not more while setting the car up. Gauge only down 2 small notches.

Comfort seats - unbelievable.

Passing power on highway - all there the same. The amount of torque is just unbelievable, I think I am going to be driving it in manual shift mode.

There is no turbo lag, it is hesitation of tranny deciding between 1st and 2nd gear off the start (typically our cars start from 2nd gear unless you put them in DS mode)

Diesel rumble - I can hear it on local roads and off the start (at the moment I hear it more than muffler), but it is very quiet on highway.

alexmish 07-22-2010 07:56 AM

Couple of other notes how 2011 is different from 2008:

Negatives:
1. In the trunk, there are no more side hooks for grocery bags
2. In the trunk, there is no longer small net mesh on the left side wall
3. On the center console, the change holder is not as deep as it used to be (my daughter used to be able to put here Env2 in it, now you can only put some coins)
4. There is no more DVD changer in the glove compartment even with the premium sound system
5. For the Active Ventilated Package, even rear seats come with perforated leather, even though there is no ventilation in the back.
6. There is no pheumatic trunk floor holder... I guess it was gone on 2010s as well

Positives:
1. Rear doors no longer have ashtrays - instead there is a more functional cup holder
2. Front seems to be sitting a bit lower compared to 2008... It might be just perception
3. Definitely dig new bumpers and new fog light location...
4. Leather on the steering wheel is much softer

8ball 07-22-2010 12:04 PM

My 35i SportA did not have the cargo cover either.

vtmikev 07-22-2010 12:13 PM

Cogratulations, I am having a hard time deciding between the 19s or 20s, but I think I may prefer the all seasons on the 19s

rh71 07-22-2010 01:57 PM

it's everything I dreamt it would be - when can you deliver it here?

I had a hard time deciding as well. I'm happy with the 19's but the 20's make it look 100x better IMO. I'm thinking about running the 19's in the winter and snagging a pair of 20's for the summer. The only real complaints I have heard about the 20's is the tire noise after a few thousand miles. :dunno:

alexmish 07-22-2010 10:59 PM

I have a set of 18" (style 209?) with all-season bridgestones RFTs on them for winter use... Got it on ebay, take offs, installed TPMS etc. Good compromise. Will need to get spacers though ;)

motordavid 07-23-2010 07:46 AM

Titz looking new ride!
Love the wheels...
GL, mD

jeep 07-23-2010 12:45 PM

Congrats :) Did you lease or buy? Did you have sport pkg with adaptive drive earlier as well? If not, what's your opinion on that?

Leased

I had sports pkg with adaptive drive in my prior lease too. New and old feel the same in terms of ride quality and lack of lean during cornering...

vtmikev 07-23-2010 04:24 PM

So if you get the sports package with the 20s, are the wheel flares included?

20s is only a choice when you order sports package, and with 20s come the flares.

vtmikev 07-23-2010 04:42 PM

I ordered sports package but with only 19s, not the 20s , although I will sign off tonite and I can add it for 865 to $900 more..., they look awesome

So you think its a no Brainer to get 20s if Sports package is ordered

how i wish that was the case when i ordered my '10, we dont have that option to get 20s with sports, were stucked with 19s....

vtmikev 07-23-2010 05:01 PM

OK left message that I wanted to add 20's so it looks like I will wait for the 2rd change to my order, 1st being the sport package in a Vermillion Red/tan X5 35d

vtmikev 07-23-2010 08:49 PM

Sales person told me on gas vehicle sav 20's are standard while 18s standard on 35d, sport activity gets you 19's & $865 more gets the 20s and the fender flare extensions. Then its up to us to get new rims for snow tires
