What was that? Really loud sound.
 

Hello,

I just bought a CPO 07 X5 3.0. It has new warranty until May of next year. Currently 30,000 miles on ODO.

When I was backing out of driveway today and put into drive, all the sudden I heard this loud grinding sound. Like the gears or something...??!?

It was really really loud.

I started it back up and it didn't do it? Anyone heard that?

I'm definitely taking it in, but was curious if anyone has ever come across this before?

I think it is AC related... it was on full blast and did it again. AC like stopped for a sec and then I lowered fan speed, drove like 4 miles and didn't happen yet

If you have a cell phone camera you really MUST capture a recording of it when it happens.

If it is intermittant, when you bring it in the mechanic will simply get in the car, run through 2 minutes of turning it on and off, and if it cannot be replicated, that will be that.
