Maintenance Warranty Timing Question

I am just about to exhaust the 50,000 mile maintenance warranty on my 07 X5 (I'm at 47,750 miles). My question is this: the vehicles front brake digital wear indicator is reporting the front brakes need to be replaced in 4,000 miles (the indicator does not move lockstep with mileage). Does this mean that I am SOL from a timing perspective or is their a window that BMW will cover the part.

How much does replacing front brakes and rotors typically cost? (Just curious to see how much of a stink I want to make!) With my 330 I know I got both front and rear replaced under the maintenance warranty but neither with the X5.

Typically, a brake job on an X5 runs between $600-$700 per axle

seems 400 or so low for most dealers- they usually insist on pads, rotors and 2 hrs+ for labor, no?

OP- Drive around with your foot on the brake for the next 2000 miles- should do the trick.:D There is some latitude with SAs on how close you are to the 'service due mileage'...I suspect zero flexibiltiy on the part of BMW is you are over 50k.

My dealer posts his brake job prices.

I don't know if the E70 is different, but the last model E53 I looked at was $474 front, $436 rear, $893 both axles, for new pads and rotors, with all BMW parts. Not sure if the brake pad sensor is another $15 or is included. Two year unlimited mileage warranty on service work, and a free loaner, or local pick up and drop off of the vehicle.

MSRP for the E70 is 180 for pads, 170 for rotors...roughly. Not as bad as I thought.

I do brakes in an hour, so I'd say that's fair.... whether that is 'book time' or not, I dunno.

Yes there is a two year warranty on repairs, but I've never heard of a warrantable failure on brake pads or rotors....not saying is hasn't happened, just never heard of one.

By the time they add in shop supplies, environmental fees, etc, and discount the package, it seems right.

Warranty repairs on brakes can be more frequent compared to other systems; they usually relate to noise/squealing.

The dealer where I got my X5 quoted me over the phone for $1250 for both front and back.

I need your dealer in Atlanta. They want $1500+ for fronts and rears ($850 on the fronts alone) and the indies are about $1300 +/-.
