How te reset the auto-headlights sensor?

I had my windscreen replaced at an aftermarket specialist as requested by my insurance company. Job well done and no complaints but... the headlights automatically turn on when necessary but never turn off automatically unless manually. When I called the company that did the replacement, they told me to have the light sensor at the top of the windscreen reset at my BMW dealership (at installer's cost).
Is there any way I can do this by myself by pushing some weird knob-combo on the dashboard or do I have to drop the car in at the dealer just to have this sensor reset? I'm not in for service in the coming months so no planned visit to the dealer in the near future...
Thanks.

I'm wondering the same thing, or if there is any way to set the sensitivity on the auto-on headlights? On my 2011 x5 seems that driving around sometimes in the daytime the headlights go on (can tell by seeing the little green light illuminate) to the left of the switch. Also sometimes when its late afternoon (but plenty of light) they go on as well... would like to adjust the sensitivity to less sensitive/responsive to darkness.

Light sensor at top of windscreen? Are you sure this guy is talking about the right things? The "sun load sensor" is what determines when you headlamps come on or off. This is usually located on the dash somewhere up front in the middle. The sensor around the mirror I thought was just for the rain sensor (to regulate speed of wipers). I could be wrong, but if I'm not, I would just check they didn't put any goop (windshield adhesive) on the sensor always telling it that its dark outside. As for the rain sensor, your also suppose to put a new one of those on everytime you swap windshields.
