Left Side Mirror dipping failure ...
Sometimes when I reverse the left mirror either fails to 'dip' or once down and I move back to 'D' it fails to reset itself back up. I can adjust back via switches on door but then sometimes it remembers that it was in dim position and then starts pointing towards the sky ....
Its random and frustrating ..anyone else experienced this. Thought I had my X5 niggles sorted based on my last 2009 lemon ... quality issues like this are really bad on a $120k AUD vehicle ... :( |
Well, on previous models like the E53, E46, E38, E39 etc. it was the mirror motor, as it has the position sensors that know/remember where your mirror is built into it. I'm not entirely sure if it is the same for the E70 as I haven't came across this issue on one yet, but it is likely.

FWIW on an E53 the mirror positions are stored in the seat memory (like on an E70). And even though the mirrors can get seriously SNAFU'd, the seat memory will get them back into the correct position BUT.... this will NOT be remembered the next time you unlock an E53 UNLESS you lock the X5 with the physical key. IOW on an E53 you can reset the mirrors using the seat memory button and force the E53 to remember these settings if you do NOT use the electronic key to lock the X5. If you use the electronic key to lock an E53 it will immediately adjust the mirrors back to the SNAFU'd settings (which presumably were stored in the key) - DUH.
Yes I know this sounds insane. But trust me, this trick does work. I have nearly 95,000 miles over 8+ years of experience to prove it :( Now does this trick work on an E70? I hope I never need to find out. Funf Dreisig |
When my E53 had that problem, it was initially at the dealership by removing the mirror and cleaning the contacts. I was told that water sometimes gets in and corrodes it.
That worked for a while and then the mirror was replaced. |
