30,000 mile maintenance
 

I've received email from dealer to remind about 30,000 mile maintenance for my X5. Mine 2008 is more than 31,000 miles now. Every year, I've brought it in for routine maintenance (warranty 4years/50,000 miles) should I bring it in now or wait for yearly maintenance (3 months from now)? and does it part of the warranty or extra? your opinions are greatly appreciated.

If you are only bringing it in when the dash oil indicator say so, you are slightly 'under-maintaining' the car. IMO.

There is no "30,000 mile maintenance". BMWs have a dash indicator. Perhaps the dealers software made a prediction about when you were in last and where your mileage should be.... what is the dash indicator saying?

Once you start paying for maintenance (and for the 'in-between' oil changes I recommend) you should find someplace other than the dealer. The dealer is THE most expensive place to have service done. Ask around for recommendations, I am sure there are a few good indy shops in Houston.

There are other services that BMW often misses. Brake fluid flush, transmission and differental fluid change, coolant flush. Look at your maintenance guide (in the glove box?) and see what is due and what theyve already done.

Thanks ARD for your reply. Right now the dash indicator does not say anything. Everything is OK as I checked. I was surprised when I got email from dealer about 30,000 mile maintenance. If there is no "30,000 mile maintenance" then, I'll wait for my next yearly maintenance coming up in 3 months unless there is some wrong indicators light up.

How many miles since your last oil change?

How many years since the last brake or coolant flush? (This is -or at least used to be- calculated from the build date on the door jamb of the car.)

Tranny and diff are OK with those low miles....

If the dealer has been doing additional annual services consisting of only oil changes (due to low mileage) then this reminder is for Inspection I, which is a more complete set of checks. Why not just call the dealer and ask them what their records show has been done, and needs doing? That will give you something to compare to the expected maintenance steps.
