anyone know this car or dealer? DC area
The price seems a little steep for a non-certified car, but was curious if anyone had any experience with the dealer or any thoughts on the vehicle...

At 40K miles that's a lot for an '08-- unless it was put in service late '07. And price yeah you can get a CPO with less miles for about the same price.

Any auto sold at a non-BMW dealer is a "used car lot" in my book. Indeed, I'd rather buy from an individual than from the scammers that work at these places. Tactics run the gamut from "I dunno" and never asking any questions, to willfully deceiving buyers.
You MUST get a PPI for ANY used car. |
I don't think there's much to say about this kind of dealerships: they mostly buy cars off auctions (Manheim/Adessa/EVO/etc.) and sell to the publich with a profit (if lucky). Nothing more. So you can score a good buy if the dealer was smart to buy a good car for less and didn't put much of a profit margin, or it can be a rip off if they bought a lower-grade vehicle and jacked-up the margin. For this particular one, you can ask for a copy on inspection report that is done for every vehicle sold on Manheim, or do you own inspection.
P.S. I wouldn't call 20K/year a high mileage - if you commute in a large metro area, it's rather typical and mostly involves highway miles. YMMV, obviously... |
thanks for the feedback - I am much more interested in a CPO, but seems to be hard to find the right combination of color, features, etc - and regards to price - if i search autotrader (or BMWUSA.com) for CPOs they are all listed at $50K+!! - i'm not paying asking price, but they start a lot higher.
not worried about the MPG - i know what to expect from a large V8-powered SUV! |

Search BMW USA for a while and your color/option combo will likely turn up somewhere. It only took 3 months to find my X5 and I had three to choose from so it came down to condition, location, price for me. |
They are old school, they price high so you when you go sit down they knock off 3-4K so you feel like you got a bargain. Their cars are ok!

You cannot even 'trust' a BMW cpo inspection...sure they hopefully catch stuff, but if they done there is zero recourse and nothing BMWNA will do about it. Factory in the price of a PPI (honestly you should PPI even a BMW CPO, unless you know how to inspect), an a BMW extended warranty (Gold Plan, 6/100 is $4-4500) and that is your own homemade CPO. Buy it from an original owner that is getting bent over on their trade-in and do everyone a favor... Remember, the get these CPO vehicles from somewhere! A |
