Well, you certainly are persistent!
I think the take-away for others who may decide to go through BMW Customer Service is that in practically every situation, owners will be better served by dealing directly with their selling dealers. The dealer going to bat for you will always help a manufacturer to resolve an issue such as this. The BMW factory makes the vehicles, various BMW marketing organizations distribute them to dealers, and dealers manage the interface with purchasers. Linking the customer directly with the marketing organization jumps the queue, and is really ineffective, since there is no accountability. This isn't a BMW issue, it is true of most automobile manufacturers. The sad thing is that they refer to their call centre as a Customer Service department, when by any real measure, that isn't what it does. Glad your case was resolved. |
Wow It wasn't that hard for me to get a cargo cover.
It only took me about 5 minutes for MY CA to get me cargo cover. He told me not to speak anymore after about 30 seconds and then went and took care of it. I got a brand new out the box cover. BMW did the switch after my car was ordered, So I was pissed. No way was I going to pay 400 for that thing after I expected it to be there. I really don't see how people say they never use it. I use it ALL the time. I would suggest that anyone making a new order just get the CA to throw it in at the time you make your deal. The cargo cover delete happened in JUNE, so the dealers are all well aware by now. No surprises anymore. I still can't understand why the X35i is the only one not getting the cover. |
I found it useful during our roadtrip when we had things in there parked in random parking lots (hotel, amusement parks), but I don't use it any other time... actually with a double-stroller back there which fits under it, it still gets in the way as far as overall space.

BMW just released this information regarding the cargo cover:
"Due to an overwhelming demand, we are pleased to announce that beginning with Production Week 41, all X5 xDrive35i models will be equipped with a Cargo Cover. Since the reintegration of the Cargo Cover is a running change, a "ZCC" option with a $100 retail price will be added dependent upon the prodution date. This will ensure that only vehicles that are built with the cover are subject to change." |

My apologies to those who have to pay $100 extra but don't want the cover :D |
I'm still missing the reason they removed it in the 1st place, but left it in the diesel and the 50i.
I'm happy for everyone that they wised up. |
BMWNA is the main reason I traded my X5 35d. They couldn't supply parts for my car or explain why my battery wouldn't stay charged, and my I drive screen would go blank. What a screwed up company in my opinion. It wasn't until I told them to buy it back that the parts finally showed up after waiting 3 months for a part to fix a check engine light on a brand new vehicle. I waited another 5 weeks for a heated fuel filter. Then, the dealer tried to charge me for the diesel exhaust fluid flush and fill. That was the last straw and I'm done with BMW for good. I'm glad you got your cover, but just wonder what it did for your blood pressure and health? I decided it wasn't worth dealing with the local dealer and BMWNA anymore. I've had my Lexus for 6 months and the only time it was in the shop was for the VSC recall and to have my new wheels installed. This was my 4th and last BMW. I did like the way it drove and handled, but the customer service, durability and reliability sucked!
