Yes you should. They wear down.

I did not replace mine. If you did not wear the brakes down until sensor come on the dash then it's reusable. If the brake sensor light comes on then replace the sensor. It's cheap. $ 25-30 bucks I think.

Thanks, sensor didnt come on yet. Dash says I still have about 3k miles on front pads. I will reuse it.
Should i go ahead and reset my light when i change pads or wait till 3k miles come up?

If the sensor has not yet contacted the rotor (ie it isn't worn yet) then you can reuse it.

I'd reset the service interval went the pads are changed, not 3k later.

Hi everyone, I just finished doing my front brake and when i tried to reset my brake light, It would not reset. I didnt change my sensor and my warning light did come up before i change my brake.

You think my sensor needs to be change inorder to reset my light??
Thanks

If your warning light came on, then the sensor was activated and it must be replaced. Once the wire on the sensor wears through and activates the light, the sensor cannot be reused.

Thanks Pengiun,

Replace the sensor. Older E53 models had a simple contact with only a warning light when it wore through. That isn't the same as the E70.

The E70 counts down the remaining pad mileage on iDrive. It uses a two-stage sensor (if it is the same as my 535, and I suspect it is). Once the mileage is counting down, and you replace pads, you need to replace the sensor. The manual advises that if you don't you won't be able to reset the brake pad counter.

Is the brake service covered in the 4yrs/50k warranty?

Yes.

MRV99 10-11-2010 02:45 PM

It is actually covered with the 4yr/50k maintenance plan and not the warranty. Sorry to split hairs

Indeed, that is a more accurate statement.

Completely correct. And now to split hairs a bit further, brakes are included in the full maintenance plan, but not in the scheduled maintenance plan.

In the US, BMW includes full maintenance. In Canada (as an example) BMW includes only scheduled maintenance, ie no wear items such as brake pads and wiper blades. We can upgrade to full maintenance at time of purchase. In much of the rest of the world, maintenance plans are available at extra cost and not included in the vehicle sale price.
