side mirrors heated?

i've been noticing lately that my driver's side mirror doesn't clear the fog / mist when i start the truck. the passenger side clears immediately.

if i activate the defroster the mirror slowly clears and i can see dots where the heat is being applied.

aren't the mirrors heated, no matter what, once the ignition is keyed?

i suspect i have an issue. my DRLs on the driver's side are burned out also. anyone believe these two issues could be related?

The manual states that "below a certain temp, both exterior mirrors are automatically heated when the motor is running or the ignition is switched to on"

Yes, if working properly the mirrors are heated in "stages". I don't remember the exact temperature/heating percentage relationship but it goes something like above 70F it's 5% of max heat applied, 50 - 70F it's 25%, 40 to 50F it's 50% and below 35F it's 100% (or something like that). One thing that could make it malfunction is if your outside temperature reading is malfunctioning.

yeah, kinda thought it should be working better than it is. my temp sensor seems to be working fine so i'm thinking it is the mirror or something in the circuit from the sensor to the mirror.

extended warranty pays off one more time.
