X5 Storage package contents?

Does anyone know what's in the E70's storage package, that comes in the premium package?

No spare, no jack. Just carpet in the area where the spare would normally go under the rear hatch floor.

Per the brochure:
Storage Package (included in Premium Package) adds a storage box under the front center console; safetybelt pretensioners for left and right rear seats (not included with optional thirdrow seating); in the cargo area, two lashing rails with four lashing points.

I don't know what storage box they are referring to. It's also odd that the 3rd row pre-tensioners are in this package.

Yep. An empty spot where the spare tire used to be.

Nice that it gets a fancy name. It sounds as if there are a few other things too (from earlier responses). I'll check it out when I pick up my X5 tomorrow..

Hmm... I believe the storage package is addition of rails and hook in the trunk area...

AzNMpower32 09-29-2010 10:14 AM

From BMW DE (because the Storage package is a separate a la carte option there €270)

Storage Paket includes the 12V outlet in the centre armrest, the interior cargo rails and 4 lashing eyelets, and storage nets* left/right side in the cargo area plus the storage compartment* under the cargo floor.

*When not equipped with the 3. row.

I got everything you listed except the nets.

A bad translation on my part. They aren't nets, rather the elastic band that's on the sides of the left and right wheel housings in the cargo area.

See the cargo area on this particular 2011 for sale.

Well, I have a 35i Premium.

I do have the carpeted storage compartment, but - much to my chagrin - no lashing points on rails. Which I wanted. (I'm not even going to go into the $#(@ cargo cover)

I don't have the elastic bands, either. Mine was delivered early September 2011.

Did they delete these things? (I imagine they did..)

PS: AzNMpower32 - thanks for the ad link. I had no idea an X5 was so um.. priceless in Germany.

TheWanderer66 09-30-2010 10:19 PM

I talked with my CA about this when I picked up mine yesterday. It sounds as if they (BMW) are going to start putting these back in after all the complaints, so keep in touch with your CA about it. Who knows, maybe you could end up getting one anyway :-)

It is possible that the lashing points are stowed under the cargo floor (it's that way on the X3 at least).

BMW cuts corners on every US-market BMW so we can pay a LOT less than the rest of the world. It's a trade-off, really. We save money and get lots of standard features, but we often get the short-end of the stick when it comes to options and features. As you probably notice in that German ad, they have the whiter LED corona rings, along with the cargo cover and optional side-view cameras since a few months ago (not on that particular vehicle though).

ukwildcat 10-04-2010 10:39 AM

AzNMpower32.. Thanks for the explanation. It does make some sense - someone posted around here a link to a USED model for sale in Germany for CONSIDERABLY more than it costs USED here, so yeah.. I get that the economics are quite different.

I do have lashing points in mine, but no rails, which limits my options.
I don't have the elastic band things which would be nice and I get the feeling that they cannot be retrofitted at all, but even if they could, probably at an outrageous price.

I had to pay $400 for a $((#@$ cargo cover, and almost $100 each for two nets (the luggage net and the one that fits across the back where I stick my groceries).

I can't help but be disappointed.

I have those on both the 10 X5M and the M Sport. I didn't order a "storage" package though it all just came on the cars.

Maybe it's all part of another package???

2012 Cargo Area

Anyone knows if the new 2012 X5 35i Premium have the lashing rails in the cargo area? Is the lashing towers included?

ard 12-02-2011 12:45 PM

No lashing RAILS on my '12 Diesel. 4 lashing points, no rails.

UCX5 12-02-2011 12:49 PM

thanks, just wondering since I didn't see it mentioned in the packages except on the X5M.

ard 12-02-2011 12:58 PM

My 2010 X5 D had them!
