Those look really good. Can you tell me what the bulb type is for the corona rings? Do you need 2 or 4 bulbs? Where did you order them? Thanks.

HOiYA 10-03-2010 10:43 PM

The corona rings (aka angel eyes) are H8. You will need 2 bulbs, and they are sold as pairs. Just do a web search for them and you will find numerous vendors.

If you are also looking into replacing the fogs, those are H11 bulbs.

Thanks!

in daylight, are the outer rings not as bright as the inners like mine?

HOiYA 10-05-2010 10:03 PM

If the GP's are like my old Mtec's, the outer rings won't be as bright as the inner. Check out my Lux H8 and you'll see it brighter... mind you it was a typical foggy day in San Francisco

Got mine installed today. I was initially skeptical from posts earlier but after installing one side I compared it to factory. The color is great a near perfect match for the HIDs and they are at least as bright as the stockers which is all I wanted from my angel eyes. I'm usually the one who will spend much more on a modification for a 10% improvement but in this case I'm glad I saved the extra $180 over the Lux or other true HID system. The 8500k fogs are next. Anyone know how difficult the fogs are to install? Just remove plastic under bumper or more than that?

I have tried a lot of different things in my 335 and spend lot's of money and for the X5 I just bought the GP Thunder II's for like 8 bucks + 5 shipping and they are better than most other things I have tried including $100 LED's and equal to anything else with the exception of HID's, LUX or OSS, but I ain't spending that much money on stupid light bulbs. They basically look like stock only white - exactly what I wanted for short money.

BTW - who is masochist engineer with girly hands at BMW that designs their headlight enclosures - both my 335 and the X5 bulbs are only serviceable by a child pretty much - dealer mush hate bulb replacements more than anything!

The fogs are easier to install as you don't need tiny hands to get access!

GP Thunder II? Did they come out with something new in the last year or so?

Do you mean the 80w instead of the 35w here? H8 by HID Lights USA

nope i did not... I wonder if it's really brighter... but I remember reading someone had an error thrown?

For those also interested in doing the fogs, I bought the 8500k H11 bulbs but to me they look a little more blue than the H8 coronas in 8500k. I bought a set of the H11 fogs in 7500k to compare hoping to get a little whiter light. I'll report back.

I did exactly this already... first had the 8500k and switched to 7500k... it still looks a bit blue when illuminated. The bulb is coated with blue so the fogs enclosure being just glass, it can't hide it too well. Still beats yellow in my opinion even if they aren't as effective.

Do the 7500k H11's look more white than the 8500k's?

very slightly... to anyone looking at the vehicle, it will still look blue-ish, still more than the coronas. If I had to do it over again I would've just kept the 8500k on and not bothered... but since you already ordered, go for it.

This is listed on ebay and claimed it is GP Thunder II latest version in 35W but output to 60W. Anyone tried this one?

GP-Thunder II 8500K H8 Light Bulbs For BMW E92 E70 X5 .: eBay Motors (item 400163779120 end time Nov-12-10 16:35:09 PST)

roadkillrob 10-17-2010 07:54 PM

They are still 35W rated bulbs and that is what they consume, they are just marketing them as looking like 60W HID, but they are the same 35W as stock or the GP Thunder I version. I have them and they are in my X5 and E93 and look good, especially for the money!
