doesn't shift away from park

I've had this happen twice in almost 3 years... but it is a little concerning. Just starting the car and putting it in reverse it doesn't actually shift. It still says P and of course doesn't move. Last year I had this happen while trying to shift to D... it stayed in P. Shifting the opposite way doesn't help - the only thing that does is engine off/on again. E-Brake is disengaged and doors are closed (and even if not, it is still supposed to shift in gear).

Is it just me? Any other pre-facelift owners had this happen?

I would have the dealer look at it. Mine only did something similar but it was because I was in a hurry and did not step on the brake hard enough to allow it to switch gears. I am only guessing you have a switch there that is not right.

Reviving this thread. I never had the dealer look at it because I'm sure they won't be able to replicate it since it rarely happens.

It happened again twice consecutively last night. By consecutively, I mean that usually an engine shut-off/restart will fix it, but this time it didn't. Have comfort access, so I turned off the computer completely by pushing the shut-off button twice and then it was able to shift to R after the 3rd engine start.

Is there an SIB on this? Anyone else experience this? Computer glitch or impending transmission issue?

I would capture a video of the behavior on you cell... This might have just been a curious annoyance now, but imagine coming to a stop at a light and having it shift to park, and lock... Might not be that issue now, but document it at the least....

must be a bad sensor somewhere... I dont think it is a brake pedal sensor - you would have had message pop up for that, and I dont think it is the side button on the shifter - you would not be able to move the stick at all. So it must be something inside of the shift controller.

Did you ever spill any liquid on top of it?
