Must have with small children
 

I posted this on Bimmerfest so sorry for the cross post for those who troll both sites. ;)

This may be lame to most out there but I picked up a some gems at the Dealership today which I wish I knew about years ago. If you have small children in the X, you know what they can do to the back seats. It is impossible to not have food in the car so I just excepted constant cleaning. I used to buy black beach towels and cut holes for for the head rests, belts and latch system and put them under the car seats until I found the "BMW Cotton Poly Rear Seat Savers". This is awesome. It form fits around the entire seat(fronts and sides and cutout for the arm rest) and does a great job of containing kid droppings and spills. You can now vacuum the mess easily without sucking up the towel. It moves with the seats so it can move back and forth and it also has the splits so you can put down only 1/2 the seat back. I bought the one what works with the third row so when you want to crawl in the back, they don't interfere. It looks much better than the towel solution and I highly recommend it. When looking in the car you can't even tell there installed. Took less than 5 min to install

I also picked up the "All Weather Rubber Floor Liners". I used to keep the winter mats in the back all year round with a black towel for the trans hump but the new liners cover the entire back seat carpeting as and is much nicer solution. Plus they have the third row rubber liners so the stuff that does get under the second row is not sitting hidden away on your carpet.

ahh.. the day that i have children! i am scared for my car. I dont know how i will handle finger paintings on my windows, finger prints on my wood trim, and cheerios in between the seats. i think i may plastic wrap the entire back seat of my car...haha Just kidding.

but yeah, by then i will be sure to invest in these accessories

I have been fortunate enough that my 2yo twins haven't upchucked in the car so far. A miracle considering they do so at home at least 2-3 times a week.

One of them did sort of scratch the tint on the window slightly... and the wood trim I'm not sure if the other guy put a hairline crack in it (dealer replaced no problem). The biggest issue right now is that one of them keeps playing with the window button. I locked it and all but let it go son! :D

I do think picking up the 2nd row floor liner at some point would be the best solution though. The seats and front seat-back are leather so they should be easy to clean... puke on carpet, not so much.

I have a daughter who suffers from car sickness ;puke; and a son who just makes a mess.....I wish I knew about that accessory 3.5 years ago!

The material looks durable, but is it comfortable to sit on for the adults? Is it a hard cotton or is it soft? and is it noisy (make a crunchy sound)? Any pics?

Fortunately my daughter is 1 year old. We are trying to teach her not to be a pig in the car. My friend has 2 kids , one is 5 and the other 7. They have a Lexus SUV and it is always clean. He told me that from the beginning he taught them not to be slobs in the vehicle, and to clean up after themselves. My dad did the same things with us. I am trying this approach. Sadly, I have more of a problem with my wife using the cars we have as her personal storage facility.

I saw those covers at the dealership. They look very durable, but take away from the look of the interior. I currently have a protector under where my daughter sits on her chair. I hope that helps. If not, I may have to buy something like this.

The material is a jeans like material and is not bad by itself. It fits really nice and even if your kids are not allowed to have food/ drink which in my opinion is impossible some times, it protects the leather from the caraway which if installed properly can leave marks on the leather. Personally the money is well spent to protect the seats for the small discomfort for the passenger

I have the same seat cover installed under the twins car seats plus an additional saver I got from babies r us.

The material is like a jeans material and is not bad to sit on. I have two car seats in back so rarely do people sit back there. I can say that any minor discomfort that the cover may cause is completely outweighed by the protection the cover provides.

I would take a picture for you but my X5 has been at the dealer for over a month so I can't snap a picture. In the event that I get the car back, I will send you a pick. :bawling:
