Dead Battery
Can someone tell me if the battery is covered in the maintenance warranty?
thanks |
Yes it is. The only way they'll give you problems is if it is discharged from excessive short trip driving and there is nothing else wrong with it, or if aftermarket accessories drained the battery.

thanks. i'm taking it in to have it looked at.

I just wanted to confirm if the Battery is indeed covered. The Service guy told me 'No' it was not and quoted me $450 to change my battery which died this weekend. My ride is the 2005 X5. I got it it CPO and even bought the extended Maintenance Plan. Surely battery should be covered by one or the other, correct?

You should check your CPO warranty..it is a "bit" different than factory original. If you will go to local autostore - it should not cost more than $200 to change it. |
Thanks, aeggroup. I didn't realized you can 'sandwich tricked' (Room Upgrades in Las Vegas Casino Hotels) a BMW SA. Guess worth a try. I'm almost certain BMW will find a way to place it under the 'Not Covered' category. The problem I have is that my X5 is currently at the shop and I'm afraid they are going to hold it hostage for the $450 battery.

I never come to the service or maintenance without tipping my SA before the job started. It saved me a lot of money during my ownership of BMW and MB. People wanna eat...and they are hungry :)

Battery would officially be considered 'upkeep' and not covered under CPO...unless you have a good relationship with your SA/dealership. Would be covered under Maintenance though so you are in luck.
BMW North America No one should under any cicumstance pay $450 to have a battery installed - either DIY or go to an indie. Nothing special about the BMW battery. |
^ was gonna say... over $400 for a battery? Even I can replace one on my own and I'm not all that handy.
also, I agree "bribing the SA" over your visits helps... I had my wood trim replaced no problem even though it is also wear & tear... just like when the steering wheel & light switch plastic started peeling. These things are expensive if it's on your dime. I'm bringing more Munchkins in for my annual next month. He said he loved them last time. |
