Engine oil capacity? OEM oil filter synthetic?
Any body knows the engine oil capacity for '08 3.0si engine? Some sources say it's 6.5 liters while another says 7.5. The manual doesn't state.
I'm not sure what kind of oil filter BMW uses as an OEM, so I tried searching for a synthetic oil filter but nothing for the X5. Same with the engine air filter. Tried searching for a synthetic fiber air filter but to no avail. |
The term "synthetic" when used to describe an oil filter or and air filter has no meaning whatsoever!
You have regular or 'dino' oil, and synthetic oil. Use an OE filter, easy. Just go to a BMW dealer, or one of their online websites and buy the filter with a BMW part and BMW logo. Change oil at TWICE the frequency the dashboard tells you, use a new filter, and you will be leaps and bounds ahead of any theoretic and unproven benefit that some 'special' filter will give you. |
What ard said. Get a BMW filter kit (includes filler plug washer and filter cap gasket) and BMW synthetic oil at your dealer or through getbmwparts.com or Crown BMW. As for oil capacity, the M54 3.0 liter engine usually calls for 6.5 liters or 6.9 quarts. I would start with that and check the "gauge" in your i-Drive to see if you need to add any more in case the X5 uses a larger oil pan.

OP to be 100% sure you can measure how much oil drains out when you do oil change. but i recall 6.5 L is ok, give or take another 0.2L
