2011 BMW X5 Dual headrest entertainment

Purchased our X5 last week without the factory rear entertainment system. Now looking for a dual hearrest option, almost pulled the trigger on OEM dealer installed system (Invision) but i have concerns about the picture/sound quality of that product. What is the resolution, power of built-in speakers, can it be integrated with car audio system.
Would anyone who has that installed please share your opinions. Also considering Rosen AV7500.

Thanks

Here's a radically different thought...Costco offers a pair of wrap around DVD players that have been very good. They're designed to be semi-permanent - you can easily & quickly attach them to the front seat back. They can be direct powered or run off built in batteries. We put them in the trunk when not in use, but you'd be amazed how many times the kids bring them into the house when they aren't finished with the movie ~ but we've arrived at our destination! They were amazingly inexpensive and have been bullet proof for a lot of hours so far.

Thanks SJCFlyer. Ended up installing the OEM dual rear screen system last week. Thanks again.

For the cost of these systems you could buy 2 iPads and headrest mounts for them.

I agree. Getting two iPads is way cheaper. These dual rear screen systems retail for $1,500. Before installation!

No, Its not. The only way to get audio is through the IR wireless headphones that comes with the system. I tried Aux port for sending audio to the car stereo which seems to be better, when we have 3 people on the rear seats. This system doesn't have the FM module like Rosen or Vizual logic does (which i believe is BMW's decision). With all said and done, my kids are happy with the system and they are a lot quieter now than before.

First of all, they look really neatly done. But I am honestly curious...
If they're not integrated into the X's sound system (and there's not an electrical/audio connect), what is the benefit of getting these over less expensive ones (non BMW)?

:dunno:

I have searched across various AV installers in the dallas metoplex for non BMW dual rear seat options and found that the less expensive system is the BMW system by few dollars. Furthermore it comes with the factory matching warranty. Most dealers offer a 15% discount on parts and labor that bring the price down. I'm servicing my other BMW with a specific dealer in the dallas area for the last 5 years and that also helped in getting a good price along with the 15% discount. Thought it'll be a bad idea to not have the sound routed through the speakers but using it for the last week or more convinced me that there is a reason why BMW chose to only let audio heard through headphones. While the kids are enjoying the movies, I'm able to listen to songs from IPod or SAT radio as usual. Another huge difference from my perspective is the tilt angle on these monitors. Rosen and Vizuallogic cant come close to this.

That's the answer I was looking for! How are the kids enjoying so far?

Kids love it. My 3 year old only wants to travel in this car. He likes the wireless head phones too.

Can you give more information about the headrest mounts for this ipad idea? Sounds like it's got alot of potential and cheaper too.

I'm about to buy the NextBase system. The main reason is becuase the monitors are usable in more than one car. This way no matter which car their in their happy. Big BANG for the buck!

Just do a Google search on "head rest mounts for ipad". You'll get a lot of matches. There's going to be more and more options. Especially when the iPad 2.0 comes out... :)

There is a way to get sounds to the car..

There is an audio out micro plug (aka ear earphones) in the "junction box" which is often installed/hidden inside the center consol. Use a standard speaker out computer cable to run to the AUX...

any third party installer shuould be able to handle.
