Cost difference between 214 and 336 wheels

I am talking to my dealer about ordering 336 wheels and swapping them for the 214 wheels when my car arrives since they are not available as on option in the 35i. I am waiting for a swap price. Does anyone know the difference in dealer cost between the two wheels? Any opinions on a fair upgrade price? Since they are the same size I just plan on using the stock tires so my question is what is a fair price to trade just the wheels.

$0 in my opinion... and I'd definitely go 214 over those even if more expensive.

In other words, don't pay too much cause you know they'll want something. They will have to get the 336s off their hands too.

OK, so to be clear the car is coming with 214s and I want the 336s. I just like the looks of the 336 better, not to say the 214s are bad. Is there any reason you prefer the 214s other than looks?

I thought the same thing about the cost but wanted to confirm my hunch. I figure I have to pay labor plus some reasonable profit margin.

They are probably the same price since they are 20" X5 wheels. Check getbmwparts.com for the real price so you are informed when the dealer gives you his numbers.

**Edit**

214s are the only things listed.

Oh sorry, you can probably see how it could read both ways. ;)

I think the 336s are too busy. Like the X3's imitation of the 214s (style 114), it's not quite as refined. A bit rough around the edges in a way. Just my opinion. I think the 300, 214, or 128s are the nicest out there.

not sure what the cost diff is, but your best bet may be to keep both sets, and sell the 214's yourself. check flea-bay & local craigslist to get a real idea of the fair market value.... doubt the dealer offers you much for them.

agree. I mentioned the same thing to my dealer and he said you pay list price for them and keep the 214's. They won't switch them out. (at least this is what MY dealer said)

Depends which dealer you go to. Years ago, I went to Crevier BMW and asked to swap out wheels on my 3 series and they did it for free for the same size. But they've changed quite a bit now and doubt that is possible anymore. Their new parts guys are pretty tight on giving discounts now. I ended by buying my 128's for a decent price from New Century BMW instead and then selling my 214's to someone else.

Was told that most dealers won't do swaps for liability issues. But if it's a condition as part of the purchase, you might be able to get someone to do it. But I definitely wouldn't pay too much more for them. Same size, same price (assuming tires are the same brand and model). But if they are willing, I'd throw them a nice tip for being accomodating.

According to my sales, I'm trying to get out of the 333's that are coming with the MSport into something else, but he's telling me that they can't do it cuz they need to sale the car according to what the sticker says. Would like the X5M's 20's though. Look better in person than in pictures.

OP here. That sounds bogus unless you are looking at a non-BMW wheel or something that isn't a stock size. I think it comes down to two issues with the dealers: 1) they have gotten used to fattening their margins with wheel upgrades so they don't get excited about swapping same-size wheels because it highlights their crazy pricing, and 2) They will have to stick the stock wheels in inventory and unless they are popular it's probably a break-even endeavor.

I have been upgrading stock wheels and selling via Ebay and CL for a long time. It's good to know that the cost is basically the same. Now I just have to decide how much I want the wheels and whether I'm better off selling the stock ones privately. I've gotten lazy over the years and Ebay and CL can be a PIA with wheels.
