Page 138 in the manual...do not exceed 4500 rpm/90mph for 1200miles. Then gradually increase speed.

Great color combo. We almost went AW.

This is NOT an X5M- my car is a 5.0- break in period???????

Here is page 3 showing which vehicles (X5 50i included) are covered in this manual and page 140 which has the break in recommendations.

IMO, just as important as not exceeding the rev limits, is to vary the engine speed and load as much as possible. Don't just get on the freeway and sit at one engine speed for a long distance.

exactly why I don't buy used vehicles.

You could say you can have it inspected and if everything checks out fine, the vehicle is fine, but then again, people care about proper break-in for a reason.

I generally sell all my new BMW vehicles after 3-4 years. I am not interested in owning them out of warranty, and there is no BMW extended warranty program here. All are broken in properly, with respect for the machinery, and are well maintained, even though I know I will be selling them before they wear out. That might be why my dealer offered to buy my four year old X5, without inspecting it, for more than I was planning on putting it on Craigslist for.
