Damage Leather seat

Hello all:

The leather on the driver side seat is peeling off. Is this covered in the maintainence warranty?

Thanks

gerrypd 12-06-2010 11:03 AM

Can you send photos? I'm almost sure it is covered.

xoutpostking 12-06-2010 02:57 PM

mouivann 12-06-2010 03:27 PM

hope you dont get offended, but that looks like some serious abuse in those 2 years.
doubt BMW will honor this excessive wear & tear.

That looks like a wear & tear. Does not look like a defective leather or workmanship. No way it will get replaced under warranty, sorry.:(

:iagree:

Dealer will likely ask what you had in your back pocket to cause the wear.

There is no "maintenance warranty"...

there is a maintenance plan, and an Original Manufacturers Warranty.

The maintenance plan will not cover product issues or failures, that part is easy.

The damage you've posed looks like wear and tear. Will BMW say it is excessive (and perhaps due to a defect in the leather?) or will they say it is normal wear and tear due to a big owner and short trips with many entries?

Looks like some mechanical abrasion might have contributed too....

Why wouldn't it be covered, its not the stress points (you can see the leather is not cracked in those locations).

Just try it out... i mean they replaced the peeling steering wheels!

it looks like you spilled something on it.. my mom had a car a couple years back that she spilled nail polish remover on the leather seat. looked sort of like that

mouivann 12-22-2010 07:01 PM

waiting on my next service date to have it looked at. hope dealer will replace it. others have mentioned that the dealer had replaced theirs with the same problems.

Hi OP, have you had any luck getting it replaced under warranty from your dealer?

Mine has similar issue and it's on the from passenger seat. My car is less than 6 months old and the front passenger seat is rarely used.

Very odd looking damage. The pattern of it doesn't look like wear-n-tear though. Probably defective. My Imola Red interior on my M3 had a weird fold and burn on the driver's seat. Car was over a year old, took it in as warranty and they had it taken care of.
