Hi all...just ordered e70

Just ordered a Premium Space Gray Black Nevada/Bamboo trim with the following packages:
- Convenience Package
- Cold Weather Package
- Technology Package
- Comfort Access
- Side View Camera
I didn't get the running boards and I hope i don't regret that. Anyone have pics of the same car without the boards?

Some background btw...This is my 5th BMW in a row...and am coming out of a two year lease on an X3.

Prior to the X3, I had an e70 lease when it first came out and I had a lot of issues with it, so had to kick off a lemon law suit and BMW settled before the court date. My normal dealer that handled the issues was pretty good about the whole thing and very helpful, so will continue to go back to them.

I just hope BMW has worked out all of the issues I had.
-Nav screen would go blank randomly
-Panoramic when in vent mode would not close
-some other minor issues
car went in for the same two issues on top over 10 times...and they were even occurring in front of the techs. They even saw all of the errors, changed computers, etc...and nothing.

Prior to that I had a first gen X5 lease and prior to that a 325xi manual (great car)

Wish me luck !

I am sure that you will love the car. I had running boards on my E70 and I did not find them to be very useful. I am over 6' so there is no issue getting in or out of an X. What I did find was that in winter my pant leg would rub on the running board and I would get salt stains. So they were a net negative for me, but I had to order them to get the skibag.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. They are pretty reliable nowadays with the exception of the HPFP of the older engine. Not sure if you're getting the i or d though.

Some like the running boards others don't. Either way you're fine.

Good luck. I pick mine up next Tuesday.

I have a running board on mine. Other than the good looks, it's pretty useless and it makes getting out of the vehicle hard.

chania98 12-22-2010 10:05 PM

I got the premium gasoline n55 engine...not the diesel.

I didn't test drive the d as not a lot of diesel gas stations in Brooklyn where I live, prefer the rims that come with the Premium gas and the extra half second or so to 60 :)

I think you'll be fine without the running boards especially being in the north. I agree with Slalom, just dirty pants legs for me. Congrats on the purchase! Enjoy it :)

I did not have running boards on my '07 3.0si. I had them on my '08 4.8i and have them again on my '11 35d. The running boards look GREAT, but they are a pain in the ass. It is near impossible to not rub my pants against them when exiting the X5. They just stick out SO much. I would get them again, just for pure aesthetics, but they are not useful or practical IMO.

totally agree. No running boards for me! After driving X5's equipped with running boards yesterday at the performance center, I am so glad I didn't get them! I am short, but kept rubbing my legs on them getting in and out. I also tried using them and you really can't get a foot on them, only for small feet!

PS will post pics later of my new shiny X5 d!!!!!!!!

Congrats! What is the turnaround for order time???

I am looking at ordering an '11 with the Sport Activity trim...and I know the dealer won't have one with the options I am looking for...

chania98 12-24-2010 10:03 AM

They told me 4 to 6 weeks as the factory was in holiday mode so things are a little slower.

I love the running boards. I don't find them usefull, but my wife and daughter do. I just think they make the vehicle look better, specially with the 20's

Hi all...latest update....stopped by the dealer as i was driving by it today and they looked up the status...car is at VPC...and should be delivered to dealer on Wed. I should be able to take delivery this Saturday. I am doing my inspection of my end of 2 yr lease X3 Saturday morning and will go and pick up the X5 right after that.

Any suggestions on the lease return? No major dings...just some small stuff. I also expect to have some $ towards those since I am about 4-5 K miles under the lease.

To my knowledge the 4-5K below lease terms won't come into play at all. I don't believe they will overlook non normal wear and tear because you are under miles...good luck with the new X5 though! I pick mine up PCD on Thursday!!

chania98 01-17-2011 05:01 PM

when I spoke to BMW FS, they did state as long as you are under by 3k of more, then it has some value. up to $300.

Good to know, thanks for clarifying!

I like my running boards for standing on while washing the top my X.

We have turned in cars with 15,000 to 20,000, that were alloted 48,000 miles...and they still try to charge you for every little f---ing thing. Sadly, there are NO rewards for less miles used, or if the car is in spectacular condition...they are like vampires! For this reason, on the advice of a BMW dealership owner, we ALWAYS trade the car in BEFORE the lease is up. Has worked better this way for over 10 years of our many and frequent car changes!

Richard in NC 01-17-2011 07:13 PM

My dealers have always run the numbers several ways. For example, if the car is of value to the dealer, you buy out the lease at the residual value, and get the trade in value. If higher than the residual, you profit. They then profit from the used car sale.

For example, if a residual is $40k, the trade-in $42k, and a CPO dealer price of $49k, you buy it out, profit $2k from the trade, and they profit $7k from the used car.

The same thing can work if over mileage. If the over-mileage penalty is $3k but the trade-in is $39k you are better off to buy it out and loose the $1k in trade than to pay a $3k penalty.

I miss my running boards that were on my e53. However, I'll take my e70 4.8 over my old e53 3.0.

I am 6'4" and I never used them. I just think the e70's look damn good with them.

Took delivery today

Hi all,

Took delivery today of the X5 and dropped off the X3.

Crappy day to pick up a car in NY area, but hey...the snow is not going away anytime soon.

So far I have put on about 30 miles.

Some quick observations:
1. Side doors need some strength to close compared to X3...could be due to new rubber surrounds vs. beaten up ones :)
2. Roads in NY stink, but I did sense the ride was a little harsher than outgoing 2008 X3.
3. Streaming iphone music including pandora and tunein radio works perfectly
(I do have the BMW Connected App installed and was crossing my fingers that somehow magically I could control Pandora, etc...from nav screen...I guess people will have to wait until March and likely for us it won't be backwards compatible. still hoping though.
4. my CS rep at LifeQuality BMW is very good and actually asked for him specifically. he is a genuine nice guy and no bs.
5. programmed a couple of the quick keys...what a fantastic feature. I remember it from my old (lemon law'd X5 from 2 yrs ago)
6. NAV didn't see some traffic on the Belt Pkwy...although I probably need to set it up somehow...don't remember if it is enabled.

Here are some quick pics and I know it was slightly dirty (salt from the road when they drove it from drop off point 2 miles away)

It is already much dirtier and just need to look past that with a new car :(Attachment 47184

Looks great!

I hope to get mine no later than EOM February. I just wish I knew the ordering process better and whether they are pretty accurate on their timelines. My dealer told me 4-6 weeks but when I had him check online he said we were scheduled for build in week 8 of the new year. We ordered on December 23rd but with the week between Christmas and New Year they close so that puts me end of February with a probable March delivery.

Richard in NC 01-29-2011 07:04 PM

Congrats on the new X5! Looks great. Well they all do.

chania98 01-29-2011 07:16 PM

I ordered mid Dec and car was at dealer a week ago. So it took 4.5 weeks.

JM71 01-29-2011 08:13 PM

Ordered 12/31. Build complete on 1/24. Pickup at PCD on 2/9.

Carbo56 01-30-2011 09:06 AM

Ordered my 35i on 12/28, it was at the dealer in NJ on 1/25. Four weeks.

rh71 01-30-2011 11:02 AM

Nav traffic needs a bit of time sometimes... not always perfect but I do appreciate when it does work.

But I've found for NY highways, your original route is usually still the most time-efficient route even when there's a little bit of traffic (as long as you're still moving). A few times I was re-routed and followed the route which takes you through red lights and other local roads before taking you on a longer highway.

And lastly, it's the Belt... you don't need traffic info for it... you know it's already jammed. ;)

Question, does anyone know with the pre-LCI idrive, can you do the pandora streaming in any way with an iphone? I don't have an i-anything (didn't want to mess with 3G fees) but may switch if I can do pandora.
