Battery died -- radio and all sounds do not work???
After my battery died, I jumped it and had no issues restarting the car. But now, the radio, and all sounds don't work! It's like the car forgot if it had a radio system at all. In fact, all of the dings and sounds that the car makes when it starts doesn't even work anymore.
Any idea what's going on ? |
Well you've so helpfully failed to say what car and where you live/where the car is/ what market area....
So no real ideas. Maybe lost the module programming for he nav/audio? |
It's 2007 4.8. I live in the US, and the car is sitting very quietly in the garage. :(
I guess lost programming for audio is a possibility, but that really happens from a drained battery??? |
Check the fuse that controls such things? Meaning, what if the amp powering the speakers has no power due to a fuse that blew upon jumping?
Correct me if I'm wrong but all chimes come through the main sound system speakers - no? Then again, I'm not familiar with that model's sound system. |
blehhhhhahhhh! this car is so frustrating.
I get in my garage this morning and checked both fuse boxes (front and back) for any fuses relating to the sound system to make sure everything was fine. they were. I hop in the car, resisting the incredible urge to just smack the car on dashboard a few times for being so crappy (you know you've all done this at some point in your life), then start calling the local stealership to schedule service. But then what do you know, the car starts fine and the whiny voice of Miley Cyrus starts coming through the speakers. The only thing that doesn't want to turn on is my rear seat entertainment system, but I'm willing to bet that entire unit was wiped from the car programming when the battery died. The stealership told last time they replaced it that the unit may need reprogramming if it loses power to it again or something. Whatever... I think at this point, I just want to go buy a CJ Jeep and never worry about electronics again. |
What a shame. I'm actually about to buy an 07 4.8. This would be moving from my 05 3.0.
Now I'm worried. THANKSSSSS!! Good luck, man. |
To be honest, I'm really worried what I would do after my CPO warranty runs out... in 3 years. And I don't think it'll get any better with future versions of BMW's, since more electronics are being stuffed in to newer models as the years go by.

I guess we'll see what happens when I get to the stealership. Glad it's semi working for you now. At least you can rock tunes on the way to the dealership for service...? |
good thing is that the X5 seems to retain value much better than other BMW models. I geeked out a little earlier in 2010 and decided to trend depreciation of BMW's for MY2005+. X5's did the best by a bit in front of the 3 series, and M3's. 7 series was the loser from what I saw.

The car has a load management system. When there is a low or no battery the car will shed non essential loads, such as the entertainment systems.
I would go to the dealer and get them to look at the error codes the car will have logged due to the battery issue, and go from there. I believe what you are seeing now is just side effects from the battery problem you had earlier. |
