Shipping X5

Hello Everyone,

I am looking at shipping my X5 from DC to Florida and read somewhere they recommend disabling the alarm? I had planned to fill the X5 with a lot of personal stuff (clothes, computers, etc) for shipment and wanted to lock the vehicle.

Is it necessary to disable the alarm and if so any way I can do it?

Thanks,

- B

I think I read that if you hit the lock button on your frob a second time it will disable the motion sensor. At least the alarm wont go off unless the doors are unlocked.

Yes, and it should also disable the tilt sensor, which should be done if shipping. Page 35 of the 2010 manual describes this... other year's manuals are probably at or near the same page number.

I don't think they will allow you putting personal stuff in the car. I've done this 3 times in the past and none of the shipment companies allowed me putting anything in the car.

Thanks for follow up everyone. I am actually doing the auto-train w/ Amtrak. I believe they allow you to pack it tight (hopefully).

Thanks,
