Clear Bra

Just got my 2011 35d. Did anyone in the ny metro area get his or her car done. Worth the money? Any recommendation for installer.

Thanks.

I had mine done in Boston area.....worth the money, as my window is pretty well pitted after 19k miles.....but the clear bra has kept front end protected

google for local installers and products

Clear Bra & Build Information

I will be getting mine done when it's delivered.

On a side note, I have a production number but no build date. I went to the dealer this weekend to see if I could get more detailed information and he looked it up and said that it looks like we are scheduled for the 8th week of the year for build.

My question is, in others experience, whether those estimates are accurate or if they usually have have longer lead times and the build actually happens sooner.

I really don't want to wait until March but clearly the wife and I are hoping for sooner. First time we have ordered a BMW. :dunno:

Thanks

I had mine done the day after I picked up my X. I would reccomend the same guy that did mine. His name is Nelson and he's on Rt. 17 in Paramus. His number is 973-207-7000. Tell him Ken (the trainer) with the X5 sent yua.

I'm surprised your dealer didn't try to sell you a clear bra, tint, sealant, etc when you got your car. Normally they try to negotiate it as well as other optional warranties. I normally just talk to the installer directly though and try to get a better price.

I do highly recommend a Clear Bra for any and all vehicles that come in contact with harsh conditions often. I see a lot of sand, gravel, debris around my area and the clear bra definitely helps preserve the paint.

I usually just plan on my wife rear ending someone in the first 20k miles!

Thanks Trainer. Will give him a call tomorrow. Guess the "D" is staying in the garage for the next couple days as we are expecting more snow.

I asked my dealer about it and they said it has damaged paintwork and they won't install it anymore. Anyone else heard this?

Try these guys. They did 2 of my cars 6 years ago on same day. No problems. One car they were not happy with outcome so they asked me to come back and redid it again at no charge. They work on luxury cars and exotics all the time.

Funny, I just picked up my 4.8i from BMW of Bloomfield this past weekend. Very nice guys, especially the used car guys I dealt with. Typically, they aren't as "nice" as the new vehicle salesmen in my experience.

But overall, great experience.

Depends on how much you cover. But could cost $400 to $600.

leetheway 01-12-2011 09:36 AM

Funny me too, I just picked up my 35d from Bloomfield BMW. Helen Ng is great.

As with the clear bra, I got two quotes and they were both over 1k. 500 to 600 sounds great I would jump on that if I find a good installer.

Nelson charged me $650. I had him do a previous truck of mine too, no problems. He works on a lot of high end cars. Good guy.

How about Phil at Detailers Domain? If I lived up north I'd take it to him, have him to a nice detail and then custom wrap on the important parts.

My dealer (Murray BMW) offers it and says they are well worth the money. I had this done on my 335i xDrive and based on some windshield pitting am glad I did the whole front.

I'm friendly with Phil. He does not like to do these those any more.

I just picked up 2011 X50 and need to get it wrapped... For $650, what did he exactly wrap for you?

I pickup mine in Houston this weekend and a newbie to this clearbra stuff.

Are there different types of clear bra's; If yes, which brand should we prefer. Are there different coverage areas?

any recommendations in houston for the clear bra?

You can try Ventureshield or Paint Protection Film - XPEL Technologies Corp.. Both are 3M films.
Find installers in your area on thier respective websites.
VentureShield

The usual coverage areas are front 1/3 of hood, front bumper, door edges, rear bumper. side skirts, side mirrors. Some people also do entire hood.

When I bought my 07 the installer damaged the paint installing the clear bra. My dealer ordered me an 08 and swaped.. They do not do clear bra anymore, at least they don't for me . ;)
