So my car got vandalized the other day.

They stole both my side view mirrors, just the mirrors, all the center caps and emblems.

Had to get the mirrors installed so i could drive, which costs $1500 for both. Going to see the insurance company on Weds, for reimbursement, but it's still a pain in the ass and -minus the deductable.

I feel your pain. Though I have the e53 X5 and only my drivers side mirror was stolen. I had to pay a little over $1200 for the drivers side mirror but of course insurance covered it but still had to pay the deductable.

Yeah, it's a pain. Side markers were also stolen. Just have to go through the process to get everything replaced.

Were you parked on the street? Train station? Mall lot?

Is this under comprenhensive in your insurance, will rates go up??. Please share experience with us. Sorry to hear it happened to you.

The mirrors have three big screws through the door sheetmetal. How did they break them off, with an sledgehammer? Or do you mean just the mirror glass?

They just took the mirror glass. Parked in front of the house on the street.

My insurance will cover it minus the deductable. Rates will not go up, unless it starts happening on a regular basis, like after 5-6 times of the same thing.

How in the world two glass mirrors can cost $1500 :dunno:

$1500 for a MIRROR?

I had electrochromic mirrors in my first (1994) Jeep Grand Cherokee and accidentally broke one off while backing out of the driveway. It was heated and the works - and it was only like $250 to replace.

What, if I may ask, makes it cost $1500!?!??!

And why would someone STEAL it? I guess if they know it's valuable, sure.. But good lord..

Sorry to hear that. When I was in college, I had my window broken into so they could steal a $5 pair of sunglasses. I called, was late to work and got fired anyway (and it was my first shirt + tie job).

It was 1500 for 2 mirrors including the $70 labour the charge to put it on. Apparently side mirrors for the x5 range from $150-800 each depending on which ones you have. Anyways, the cables for the heated mirrors were cut, so it's going to cost a lot more after i'm done with the insurance company.

If you are parking outside, maybe it would help to use the power mirror function so that they fold in???
